Hi Fellow members!

I noticed this forum and can't refrain from replying to you all, the cause of this topic is to help people decide for "Term of their Study"

Just note the basic fact about Canada
- Once you are accepted to land here , Sooner or later you will obtain PR, there are heaps of programs and ministry is changing rules regularly
- Immigration consultants and lawyers have no interest in your future they talk to you just for money . So BEWARE
- Plan future ahead based on your PAST EXPERIENCE and EDUCATION
- Every Province need skilled people and there is system in place to accept you, PLAN AHEAD FOR TARGET POLICY TO ADOPT

About Me:
B.com(hons) D.U, PGDBA(F) Symbosis (SCDL) 5years experience in financial services
Completed 1yr study in Toronto, Canada 2009-2019 currently waiting for PR.

I would be happy to answer your specific question on your future strategy on courses, please understand that your PR prominently depend on your previous skills and education. Spending on 2year course will not only be huge expense but also waste of precious time for people who are almost 25

Getting PR through a one year graduate/diploma course i would assume, would prove rather difficult. I mean if it were to be masters then you can apply for the PNP "things" (for lack of a better word LOL). Although I am hoping to go next year for my masters i think if i were to end up doing a graduate diploma i would chose a 2 year program instead of 1 as the 2/3 years pgwp you get will allow you enough time to explore other visa options.

Dear Lily, even one year post graduate is also eligible for PNP but they need a job offer.

http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/stdprodconsume/groups/csc/@oipp/documents/document/oi_pnp_students_english.pdf

9. What diploma, degree or certificate programs are eligible for the
International Student Category of Opportunities Ontario?

International students who have graduated from an eligible Canadian college or
university with a minimum of a two-year diploma or degree program, obtained
while studying on a full-time basis, can apply to Opportunities Ontario if they
have an approved job offer. One-year post-graduate degree, diploma and
certificate programs, which require a previous degree or diploma, are also
eligible
. Part-time studies, preliminary or preparatory college certificate programs
do not qualify. Skilled trade certificate programs and continuing education
programs will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Hi,

I am glad to hear from you!
You got very nice skills, I will say this is what employers need here a blended experience of domain and business.
I would suggest you to go for HRM course in George Brown College, they are well known and provide on campus job and co-op placement too.

All you need is to join any recruiter obtain LMO and get your initial work permit extended and then apply for PR. I believe you still qualify for more than 65 points ? all you need is good IELTS score and work permit.

What is your cost of education at this college and where exactly you planned to land and settle. Remember it does really matter where you live because there you gonna find employment opportunities. If you are not interested in GBC, Toronto, Ontario I would suggest to head toward Alberta.

Thanks for the support,

I already got LOA from Confederation college, Thunder Bay. Program fees is 13,050 CAD.Everyone told me that the quality here of education is really very good and college is also reputed n nly thing to worry is climate. I were trying for GBC initially but it was completely filled for sept intake and I thought getting a pure Canadian experience is really matters as asians are less here compared to Toronto:)
I m looking forward to settle down in Ontario nly but its not must, where ever I m getting good opportunities I may move around if they allow..:) and yes when I calculated points were around 72 n IELTS 6.5...

Sir

It matter from which source you heard this college is nice...! Thunder Bay is small city, there is no comparison of any other city with Toronto and Vancouver. for initial setup you will need desi guidance, ghar se khana pakana bhi siekh ke aana must hai survival ke liye. if you want you can drop the course and take admission in January session in GBC.
I dont want to suggest anything on other colleges but GBC is well know college countrywide and becoming university soon.

Best of Luck.

Yes rakesh, I have applied for a one year course, in BI, at Algonquin College, Ontario.

Prior to all PR thoughts, I was searching for a good career-driven study program. I would like to share my profile with you:
I am BSC in Computer Info. Systems, 5 years experience in Software & Web Development, System Analysis.

The course I have selected is such type of course I believe. It has co-op offer as well, within my budget too.

About PR/ Settle down issue: I tell you, there are various routes to do that. Jitu1011 has already given you the best answers. An extension of work permit/ LMO should be the target to hunt for. It is true that with 1 year course and a 1 year PGWP it is hard to secure PR, but remember it is not impossible too. There are PNP-driven routes if the course is appropriate.

About my plan: My ultimate goal is to secure a perfect job relevant to my career. It doesn't really matter I'll have to settle in Canada. I'll opt for a job after completing the course and will try settling down wherever the best job offer comes from.

It is right choice but i would suggest you to consider GBC and Humber as well, please make sure that you get co-op also, because you have a nice experience and can join as Business Analyst during your co-op term which could give opportunity of permanent hiring after completion of co-op and hence help you in PR. Let me know abt your ITIL certifications and fees of seneca.

Dear Robb,

What course is BI? I am writing this on behalf of my younger brother (my pre-June 2010 case is already rejected due to mismatch of JD). My brother is 23+ years old, completed his BCA through Distance Learning mode, did web development (free lancer while studying) for 2 yrs, worked with a web development company for one year and has been working for an UN organization for the last two years as Software developer/consultant. He is also considering to pursue 1 or 2 yrs Co-op PG diploma from Ontario. Your guidance will be appreciated.

His preference is 2 yrs from Ontario or 1 yr from Saskechewan (1 yr study + 6 months work, both in Saskechewan makes you eligible for SINP).

Expert comments from Jitu are also invited
Cheers..

Hi Rakesh,

Well I am also in this one year course

I've joined Seneca for my Graduate certificate course "PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTING PRACTICE"

My reason is also finance and my hard work and luck will be tested during this one year work permit.

I wanted to knw that in my Visa the duration is till 30th November means 3 months more than the study period. So does it mean that 1 year work permit plus 3 months?

Thanks,
Vinesh

I guess by BI he is referring to Business Intelligence course which is an IT related subject. Looking at your brother profile (BCA from distant learning) I still feel he can secure a Post graduate certificate course in George Brown college related to IT, I dont remember the exact name but if you look at George Brown college website you will find course code T-405. It is nice course with co-op and as your brother has work experience and education in IT he can make a right career move with it.

Dont worry about PR I strongly feel coming Jan2013 minister Kenney office will come up with good announcement favoring existing students and foreign workers who are already in canada.
