Hi, I am an FSW-O applicant (single) from India. I received ITA in November 2020, submitted my application & got AoR on 04 Feb 2021. At the time of submission I had a settlement fund of approx. 14500 CAD in my a/c. (8.3 lakhs INR). But since rate of INR is fluctuating everyday now, I am worried whether these fluctuations would affect my application. Kindly advise me on this. TIA.

You are fine as along as you met the requirements on the day you submitted your application . See official response from IRCC as well

Hello @legalfalcon, I'm looking for some advice on my current situation.
I'm a PGWP (3-year duration) holder and I'll soon obtain my 1-year Canadian work experience in May. Taking into account my IELTS score, a Canadian degree and work experience, I'll have an EE score of 474. I initially planned to create my EE profile in May and anticipate an ITA shortly after I join the pool. However, today's announcement about the temporary policy caught me off guard. Should one in my shoes apply for PR via both EE and the temporary policy they just introduced to maximize the chance? Should I just ignore the new policy, join the EE pool and apply PR once I get an ITA? EE seems to be the safer and faster route, but I'm quite confused about what is the best course of action for me.

Hello @legalfalcon,

Some questions on the recent announcements on 40,000 PRs for Canadian graduate students.

Do you need the degree completion certificate or can you apply if you have like a Unofficial transcript of completion while waiting for your official degree? Most recent graduates for this term will get their final degrees by mid May/ June. But their unofficial transcripts will show their degree completion by early May. Can this be used.

Another question : Do you anticipate the 40,000 graduate student slots to be taken immediately when the portal opens ? Or is there a chance the numbers will be carried forward from May over next few months to fill the 40,000 slots ??

Hello sir @legalfalcon
I came to canada as an international student. I have few questions regarding my express entry profile.
  1. I applied for my PGWP in June 2018 and at that time I was working as a shift manager; but I got my PGWP approval in October 2018. So my question is will I be able to count my work experience from the month I had applied for my PGWP or from the month I got PGWP approved.
  2. The next point where I am confused is; If I had started working as shift manager on June 18 2018 (for instance). When will I complete 1 year of my work experience. Will it be considered as one year on May 18, 2019 (as it a period or 12 months) or June 18,2019? Any help will be really appreciated sir @legalfalcon

IRCC doe snot go by the day to day fluctuation. It uses the quarterly rates as published by Bank of Canada. However, as long as you are over the minimum required PoF when you submitted your application, you need not worry. If IRCC needs an updated proof of funds you will be asked for it.

IRCC has clarified this:

The temporary policies will come into effect on May 6, 2021 and will end on November 5, 2021. Also, there is a maximum cap 40,000 applications for this policy. You can create your EE profile, as well as apply though the policy. The process should be though EE, unless something else is announced.

Also, if you create a profile and get an ITA, you will have 90 days to submit your completed application, giving you enough time to make a decision to apply under CEC or the policy.

Currently detailed procedures on how to apply have not been published. Even if there is a requirement of a official transcript, you can submit a LoE informing IRCC that the official transcript is not available and will be issued in May / June, and submit unofficial transcript until the official one is available.

40,000 is a considerably large number, and may of these applicants may already ahas applied under CEC. You will have to wait, but I highly doubt that it will immediately fill up. Also, the 40,000 slots are for people to be selected, and not applications filed, some of which will be rejected due to not meeting the eligibility criteria.

Calculating work experience for CEC

The full-time work experience requirement for applicants in the CEC may be met by the equivalent in part-time, paid work experience (e.g., more than one part-time job held simultaneously or one or more part-time jobs held over the equivalent of at least one year of full-time work).

Work experience can be calculated by adding up the number of weeks of full-time (or equivalent) paid work, for example:

  • 30 hours/37.5 hours per week in one job, or a total of at least 30 hours/37.5 hours per week in more than one job) in one or more skilled occupations at:
    • Skill Type 0 (Managerial occupations);
    • Skill Level A (Professional occupations); or
    • Skill Level B (Technical occupations and skilled trades) of the NOC.
  • Work experience must be acquired over a period of at least one year; work in excess of 30 hours/37.5 hours per week over a shorter period cannot compensate for any shorter overall period of experience.
For a student who had graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution, only work experience gained after graduation will count towards meeting the work experience requirement (e.g., post-graduate work permit).

Thank you @legalfalcon sir. Does it mean I can count the experience the day I applied for PGWP as I was working for the position I am claiming points for. Or I will be able to count the experience from the day of approval of PGWP. Sorry sir @legalfalcon, I am still confused about it. Thank you sir

Hi, I submitted my CEC inland application on March 1. AOR March 1 and Medical passed on March 16, exempted from Biometrics. Medical and Biometrics updated in profile as on March 16. No progress after that. I called IRCC and found my Criminality is in progress and VO office is Montreal. I have not received any GU since the start of application. Does this mean nothing is being done on my application yet or it is normal to not get any GU. Also how much time will it take to get Criminality to complete

You can count it from the day you filed your application for PGWP, given that you met the conditions, I,e, you degree was completed, and you had a valid study permit.

A GU only indicates a movement and some applicants will receive 5-7 during the processing of their application, while some may not receive any.

Do not rely on GU. Instead send a webform or call IRCC to know the updates, and after a few months you can wonder requesting GCMS notes for a better insight.

Hi @legalfalcon can I have 2 PR applications at the same time? I plan to apply for the new public policy under international students scheme as I’m qualified also for that. My AOR is May 2020 CEC Inland and security still not started. Will there be any effect on both applications in terms of hold on both or refusal on both or anything like that. Thanks a lot
