Hey guys, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all your help during our outland spousal application process. I sponsored my wife from India last year and she has safely arrived yesterday. It took 9.5 months in total and was quite a stressful procedure; mostly due to the silence period. This is a great forum and everyone is very kind and helpful.

I had a question too. How long will my wife's PR card take to arrive?

If anyone has any questions at all about the outland application, please feel free to ask below.

Been about 35 days and still no PR card. Do you think it's worth reaching out or just play the wait game at this point?

It's a little annoying as certain provincial things require the PR card (they don't accept the COPR) and so things are on hold for us...

These days seen posters waiting 90 days or more.

35 days is at the low end. Seriously suggest 90 days before worrying.

What province and what things are requiring the PR card and won't take COPR? (Is this BC?()

Okay, sounds good. Will hold off on contacting them for now. And that's right, it's BC. To be more specific, it's institutions like ICBC that won't accept COPR. As a result, no driver's license, IDs, or even MSP can be availed until ICBC allows us through.

My understanding is that the posted timeframe relates to all PR card issuances, ie. including renewals and not just new ones, and so new ones might be faster.

But I'm not 100% certain about this and at any rate IRCC won't think questions about them being 'late' before that 100 or whatever days.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but I think new issuance is 30-45 days and renewals are 104 days?

I see you've found a source saying more clearly, but to clarify, I only ever claimed that sometimes new ones have come in 30-45 days (ours, and I've seen some others); but certainly that's not a timeframe one could count on. I don't think I've seen faster than about that 30 days.

Most importantly I underline what the link you posted above says: "IRCC measures processing times based on how long it took to process 80% of the applications in the past."

The two key takeaways:
-80% get done in the posted timeframes - so of course some happen more quickly, in fact, most happen more quickly.
-'in the past' - it's a backward looking measure, in periods when the processing gets really hammered by some external event (eg covid) or they are in catch-up mode /clearing backlogs, the estimate will be under or over until things stabilize.
