Super Visa from within Canada- possible?

I know this question has been asked many times but most posts date back to 2011 and 2012 and are not current.

I read somewhere that it is possible for a parent who is in Canada on a regular visitor visa to apply for a super visa from within canada by submitting the application to CPP-Ottawa.

I understand that an extension of stay can be applied for through Vegreville AB. But i am more interested in the 10 year super visa that is stamped on the passport. The extension through vegreville is only a visitor permit which becomes void when the person leaves canada. So you have to stay in canada. The 10 year visa allows you to come and go anytime.

So back to the original question, have there been any changes that allow for parents to apply for a super visa from within canada through CPP-ottawa?

Or is there a way to apply for a visa once you get an extension of stay from vegreville?

Merci

I called up CIC today and spoke to an agent. The agent told me that CPP-ottawa can only issue TRV's for students and workers.

But a person can get Super Visa from within Canada by lodging 2 applications:

1. an extension of stay via Vegreville (super visa type for 2 year extension)
2. for the TRV, apply via New York or LA (you just need to have valid status in canada at the time of applying)

#2 is actually very confusing because on the CIC website, it clearly states that visitors in Canada can no longer apply for TRV's via the US. Had i known this before the phone call, i would've called the agent on it. Seems like CIC agents are not up to date (or their website isn't).

So there it is. i just answered my own question.

Thank you for the helpful info.

Just one more note: to apply for an extension of stay you have to meet the same requirements as for super visa.

According to the US offices, you can't apply for a TRV there from Canada.

Hi sbhushan,

read your posting regarding supervisa.

I am a Canadian citizen. My husband holds an indian passport. He wants to visit Canada this summer.
We want to apply for a multiple entry visit visa.

My sons are in Canada. Is it possible to apply for supervisa while he is there? As per your posting it took
a very long time to get the supervisa 21st Aug 2013 - 15th jan 2014..

My husband will be in Canada only for a month and a half. Is the time too short to apply?

Also what kind of medical tests do they do for SUPERVISA. Will appreciate if you could let me know
thanks

If your sons are eligible then they can sponsor your husband on supervisa as its only meant for parents and grand parents.
But if he is not in canada yet and does not have a visitor visa . He can apply for supervisa from his country of residence instead of first apply for multi-entry visitor visa and then apply for supervisa. Multi entry visitor visa and supervisa are all same except he can stay upto 2 years on each entry on supervisa vs 6 months on multientry visitor visa. Ofcourse there are additional criterias to met.

Rember in case of supervisa even the stay is for 1 month you have to buy Canadian emergency medical insurance for an year with minimum sum assured of 100000. its true that mostof the insurance companies return any unused premium when there is no claim if one decides to return prior to the policy expiry.

Medical test is exactly same as any other Canadian immigration application.

Dear Sbhushan,

Thanks for your prompt reply.

The reason we want to apply for visitor visa is because we do not want to take any chances. In case
the supervisa takes a long time to obtain, we will not be able to travel when we want to.

My son can sponsor him but we are worried what kind of medical exam will they do. He is diabetic.
I hope that will not go against him. He is on medication and it is controlled.
Any stay 6months and over needs a medical test, which I think is chest x ray, blood test for HIV,
TB. I cannot remember what tests we had to take when we applied for our immigration to Canada.

With short stay visit visa, the medical tests are not done. We are living in the middle east and our
visa office is Abu Dhabi.

Upon checking the net, I found that no medical tests are NOT required for where we stay.

Once we reach Canada, can we then apply for supervisa while the visitor visa is still valid? Can we leave
Canada if the processing time is too long. Will they transfer the file to AbuDhabi office?

thanks

Hello Sbhushan,

I have a question regarding multiple entry visit visa. Will that need a medical check up?

We want to be in Canada only for a month. With multiple entry visa, we can visit USA and come
back to Canada.

my son is sending me an invitation letter. he will scan and include all relevant docs.

If u have any information on multiple entry visa rules pls let me know
thanks

Anusai, why are you posting the same questions under different posts? Your question about medical was answered already here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/need-urgent-information-on-visitor-visa-t181766.0.html;msg2843811#msg2843811
All the rules about TRV (single or multiple) are written in an official guide on CIC website. I would suggest you to study it thoroughly before applying.

Thank you for your update. For how long did the CPP-Ottawa issued the super visa for your parents?

Hi sbhusan,

If you check the counterfoil visa attached to the passport, what does it say for category of the visa?

Thanks.

the counter foil of the visa says category 'PG-1'. where as the earlier visitor visa which is cancelled at the time of issuing supervisa had 'V-1'
