My MIL has a super visa which expires in ~7 years. She has had it now for about 18 months. As a precondition of receiving the Super Visa originally, she obtained >1 year of emergency medical insurance as required by CIC.

My question is this, is it a requirement of the Super Visa to maintain and continuously have health insurance over the entire span of the visa? Will anyone know if she cancels it at the end of the 2 year policy? And lastly and maybe most importantly, if she wanted to apply for another Super Visa in a few years' time, obviously she will re-purchase another >1 year insurance policy for the application, but will it be held against her if she was staying with us here while uninsured previously? Any help would be appreciated.

TL;DR: MIL's monthly insurance costs are burdensome for her. She already has a Super Visa which is approximately 18 months into a roughly 9 year life span. Is she allowed to cancel her insurance now, mid-Visa, or is it a requirement of the Visa and not just a requirement for the application that she hold valid medical insurance the entire time she is visiting Canada?

Thank you very much

1. She needs the insurance while she is in Canada. If she left and then returned, then CBSA would want to see the insurance.

Just to clarify, her supervisa doesn’t allow her to stay for 9 years. If she has no date on the entry stamp in her passport, she has about 6 months left before she needs to leave or extend her stay. They will want insurance for the extension as well.
Keep in mind that you are probably financially responsible for her health care if she has no insurance.

If the insurance payments are too much of a burden she can return to her home country or visit Canada for shorter periods of time. The supervisa program is a privilege and basically depends on the willingess to purchase health insurance.
