Study Permit Rejected

This really makes me worry. My husband has submitted his application of study permit since end March, but as the ASC was closed, he could not give his biometrics until last Thursday. His I-20 was expired on end June, and now in the 60-day grace period. He has applied for change of status to be my dependent (as F2) since mid June, but still has not heard anything back from USCIS. Do you think submitting a webform, telling IRCC that he has submitted an application of change of status would help? IRCC has not started the eligibility review so far.

This pandemic makes everyone worried. Especially for those who apply for study permits in different countries. We have to consider the valid status. Hopefully your husband can receive good result soon. Finger crossed

If there is no COVID-19, ur husband should get the result before his I20 expires. I really hope IRCC officer can understand the pandemic is under our control and we really wanna get approved to study in Canada!!!

I'm not sure but I'll try submitting a webform... nothing to lose. My application was processed in Ottawa
I agree with you about submitting the webform. Please make a update here if you get any feedback from IRCC. It should be very helpful for many of us here. Thanks.

Hi all,

My study permit was rejected on Monday on the ground that I "do not hold a valid US status." I am on the grace period after my OPT as a student in the US and that grace period is considered a valid status under US law. Any suggestions on how or if I should move forward?

And for those interested my timeline is below:

Submitted online application: June 30
Biometrics completed: July 16
Decision: July 27

Hello, did you ever get AIP or was it outright refusal?
Also, what have you done since? did you appeal and let them now about the grace period?

I received a straight refusal. I submitted a webform that same week pointing out the US regulations stating my valid status with the grace period but I have not heard anything back from them and its been over a month.

My classes are starting next week but I believe that since I received a refusal I cannot begin classes. Does anyone know anything about this? I spoke with the school but it doesn't seem they're clear on what I can do. If I can't start classes next week I'll either be deferring or withdrawing later this week.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts!

Did you send the webform to the new york office? make sure you do that because they're the ones that are open.

As for your situation, it's completely up to you. If you are adjusting your status to another visa category in the US to maintain legal status for the next 6 months, then go ahead and reapply. I would suggest differing until winter 2021 though because that will give you enough time and you wont have to worry about refund deadline for tuition. You will have to keep in mind that there is a set refund date for tuition depending on your university/college so you dont want to pay and then not get it processed in time.
