Hi all, I'm currently working as an English teacher in Vietnam to support my family. I asked for a letter from my employer but they refused because I haven't been paying taxes.
Should I:
-lie, say I've been unemployed and living at my gf's parent's house all that time without paying anything?
-tell the truth, explain to CIC I've been working illegally because I'm so desperate to be with my family?

I have pay stubs but they are little more than a paper with a money amount written on them.

Thanks

Which category are you applying for?

Family sponsorship, common-law. I forgot to say this is my sponsorship application.

If you are working/in Vietnam, how are you applying as a sponsor from Canada?
Explain more like where are your right now and are you the sponsorer or applicant?

I am a canadian citizen, applying outland. I'm working in Vietnam. I am the sponsor.

Sorry I didn't make it clear, I'm in a hurry because I was supposed to mail everything today but I got this surprise at the last minute.

There is no income requirement to sponsor your partner.

It appears as though whether it is your employer's decision or your own, your position might not reflect well will CIC.

You could always give them as much information about your position as you have and leave it at that. It is unlikely they will call your sponsors, but might be put into a less than ideal situation if they do happen to call your employers.

As there is no income requirement for the sponsor, maybe try and aim to get a taxed income in Vietnam in the interim, and in the application focus on how you will be supporting yourself and your partner once you get back to Canada. However it may be classified as misrepresentation if you only give partial information. This is just my opinion, maybe someone has better advice.

Good luck!

Along with your application, although proof of financial income is not required so one is never rejected because of Income, I would still suggest to include if you already have it, whatever form it is.

One more thing, I am from Quebec and I am sponsoring for my partner to live in Quebec but I am not a resident of Quebec. If you tell me I don't have to include that proof, along with IMM5481 it would help me a lot!

Be honest and report the facts. CIC doesn't care if you are working legally or illegally. You should go back to your employer and explain that any letter they give you will never come back to get them; it's being used for CIC purposes and CIC has no jurisdiction, or interest, in whether you are paying taxes in Vietnam or not.

My employer is also dodgy, but they do pay taxes on my behalf. For me, I don't want the administration to know what I am planning. When I asked them to write a letter confirming my employment, I just said it was for tax purposes (which was partly true).
