Sorry another question, if we just do the passport when we are there. Do we need to get baby a ETA visa to enter ?

The baby is a Canadian citizen and doesn't actually qualify for an eTA. People have gotten them for their kids by not declaring their child's Canadian citizenship in the eTA application but that is actually lying.

I would advise you to get the passport so that the child has proof of citizenship when you come to Canada. The Certificate generally takes many months to process.

Just to let anyone else know

Baby was born, got Canadian citizenship certificate with just some paperwork and then have just sent that to Wellington for her Canadian passport . Was all rather easy.

WHV took about a month to get sorted and now I just have to enter before May 2019 which is 1 year .

Biggest expense will be travel insurance for the 2 years which looks to be around $1800 which you need proof off.
