Hello everyone, I’m new and confused with immigration processes, if you can enlight me on some point:
I’m canadian citizen, would like to sponsor my husband. Didn’t start the application yet but was wondering can I start the application here in canada while my husband is living/visiting me. If he comes with a visitor visa can he stay indefinitively in Canad while his application is being processed.
Other question: while staying with me and application in process, can he go to school, training programs or even language program or he has to wait for any official document.
Thank you, immigration matters are so confusing

My husband and i did this - he came in a visitor visa and stayed. We applied outland which means he cannot work and you will need to continue to extend his stay until the application has been approved. If you apply inland you have the option to submit an application for an open work permit which would grant his legal status in canada for the duration of the application or until the permit ends. As for schooling im not sure but i would assume he needs some type of permit for this - i will let others comment on that part ad i am not sure

Sorry for my questions again, i ‘ve read on inland vs outland and didn’t understand. I guess it means it all depends on where the sponsorship was started, in Canada or elsewhere??
Inland is living in canada - you have the option to apply for an open work permit to keep status. If not you need to continue to extend stay. If you leave canada and are for some reason refused entry again your app will be cancelled and you cannot appeal. Outland you can still live in canada or outside of canada but cannot work in canada. If in canada you have to extend stay and maintain status until application is approved. You can come and go and if refused and border it will not cancel the application. Try researching applying within canada and outside of canada

I teach ESL and based on what I know, there are some language programs he might qualify for. He won't be able to register in LINC or government sponsored classes until he gets his PR. However, there are various programs offered by non-profit agencies or some that run out of churches that he can attend as a visitor, and the availability of those depends on where you are residing.

As for training programs, I believe he would have to apply on a student Visa for even certified short course programs or wait until he gets his PR. He can of course do volunteer work, although I think some organizations are a bit stickier especially if you require a security/police check.

A friend of mine attended English classes and volunteered at a church sorting out clothing while she was visiting her son 2 years ago. Being able to do these things will help him integrate into Canadian society.

When you say he can stay in Canada indefinitely while his app is being processed, I think he would have the same rights as everyone else ... probably they will grant him a 6 months visitor's visa (if you apply outland) and then he would have to renew it if your app is not finished being processed. That visitor's visa would be issued at the discretion of CBSA.
