@Varun123, i don't really know how this notion was developed. But to the best of my knowledge, there was no requirement of invitation or SOP. Many people write these for their own comfort but spouse (or kids for that matter) is/are not some body who you need to show willingness to invite. If relationship is genuine (which is all CIC cares about) and they meet all requirements, they are accepted by default.

I know of tons of people including myself who never added a single letter or document for their spouse and children and got those approved. Unless there is a special situation that needs explanation, it is of no use.

What fkl told is right. Even, I never produced any document like that. All I submitted is marriage certificate and passport which has my spouse name on it and vice versa.

My spouse's work permit got rejected and when i ordered the GCMS notes the reason of rejection was "Host did not provide invitation letter / letter of support".

Hi Everyone! We've just applied for my spouse's work permit online. He is in Russia now, I am in Canada working with post graduate work permit. Does anyone know how long it takes to process an application? On the website it says 53 days for work permit online , but if to view by country it'll take 6 months. So how long it is before they get back to us?

The following says current processing time from Russia is 6 months. The time lines you are referring to are for those applications submitted INSIDE CANADA. Applying online does not convert your app to the equivalent of submitted inside Canada. Only those whose current country of residence is Canada can do that.

The ONLINE processing time is for apps submitted INSIDE Canada.

The other thing is - being on PGWP you ONLY qualify for SOWP IF YOU HAVE A SKILLED JOB i.e. NOC 0, A or B. If you did not attach evidence for that, please add that to your application right away. Else it is clear cut refusal.

We applied for SOWP for my husband at the port of entry. Took only 15 minutes - officer didnt ask about anything. He checked only my LMIA and our passports. We risked ticket, but compared to the problems people have applied online I think is worth. It is the best solution for person from visa exempt countries

Sure you can apply AFTER she has a skilled job. Be sure to include a detailed letter from her employer that shows her responsibilities and match it with the NOC it fits it. You have to clearly write it there. E.g. if you think it is NOC B job, QUOTE that job title in the employer letter and NOC code and attach responsibilities from employer as well as the one listed on CIC official NOC list.

This however, is the only one issue i think you had. I don't know if CIC had other concerns. While you wait for your spouse to get a skilled job, order GCMS notes and go through them thoroughly. If you don't understand any part post them on this forum or ask for professional help. You don't want to leave out a concern CIC had. Then ADDRESS that in your application. The next visa officer evaluating your application will look at previous rejection notes. So your application should include a letter mentioning the reasons and documents proving how you address them.
thank you very much for your response. ya me also think about to apply after a skilled job. but what is you opinion about a visitor visa?. any chance of getting that.

Hello everyone,

I am working full-time in canada on a PGWP (valid till Jan 31,2016) , my job skill level is NOC A, I got married on July 2, 2014. I applied for my PR (spouse included) in August. I have not yet received a file number for the PR application.

I would like to bring my spouse to Canada and have been researching CIC website + CanadaVisa.com extensively. Found that my wife is eligible to get a Open Work Permit.

I require some major guidance as to if this procedure does apply to me?

Please help me out in this case of dilemma. Would really appreciate your help and kindness.

Thank you very much.

@joshi9,

I don't see a dilemma here. Just apply for SOWP which is a normal work permit application with LMO and any employment requirements. It is basically your spouse who would apply, whether online or on paper from her current country of residence and processing time for the respective embassy would apply.

In addition to normal requirements stated on website you have to concentrate on two things.

a) Prove that you have a skilled job i.e. NOC A in addition to PGWP. You need to provide detailed letter clearly justifying your duties from your employer and how they match the NOC level A position.
b) Since you have been recently married, just legal marriage certificate is not enough. Provide all sorts of additional proof for showing its a genuine relationship (marriage ceremony pictures, event card, proof of communication with spouse etc.), any other document that supports your relationship.

Then you should be good to go. Attach proof of PR application as well. That would show dual intent and having your spouse listed there would strengthen your case.

Thank you for the prompt response @fkl

I have some questions :

1. How do I show the proof of my PR application submission when I do not even have a PR file number
2. If I m showing a bank balance of approx $30K, is that enough?
3. Do I need an Invitation/Support Letter for my spouse?
4. Does my spouse apply for a regular Work Permit Application? What does she write under the "DETAILS OF INTENDED WORK IN CANADA" section?

Plz help

You are welcome

1. You would have some sort of receipt for having applied for PR depending upon what type of PR program you applied for. If not just put in your name, dob, passport numbers and date of application along.

2. It might be a bonus, but for a good NOC A job - you don't require ANY proof of funds. Just proof of job should be enough.
3. Again - in the light of some recent feedback, where i have heard people saying their refusal reasons stated "no invitation letter", i would suggest its safer to include that. It was never stated as a requirement nor did I or any one i knew included any such letter and always got SOWP.
4. Yes she applies for a regular work permit application. Just in WP type, she would choose OPEN and in details of intended work in Canada write "Not applicable". If you are really conscious, may be you could additionally write "Spouse of temp worker holding NOC A job" along. She needs to attach copy of your work permit, job letters, recent pay stub may be and she should be good to go. If she has a good education in home country or has worked in the past, adding those details might just strengthen your case.

You are most welcome. A regular visitor visa in this case has a high chance of refusal, because it does not show your true intent and it is very simple for CIC to see that. If you meant a resident trv with your spouse (instead of a work permit), then it would take the same length of processing time and requirements.
