I am in Canada on Work Permit, my spouse is with me in Canada on Visitor Permit.

Now we are planning to get transfer her Visitor permit to Open Work Permit. For that I am filling out the IMM 5710 form to apply for an open work visa however the first question on the application only has 4 choices and I don't know which one to pick since they don't really apply to an open work permit.
The choices are: A work permit with the same employer
A work permit with a new employer
Restoration of temporary resident status as a worker
Initial temporary resident permit or extension of temporary resident permit.

Can you please suggest what I need to select?

You can pick work permit for a new employer there. You will have the option in another question later on to reply that it is an open work permit you want.

Hi CPP-Ottawa folks: I made a spreadsheet for people whose visa office is Ottawa. Feel free to add your names and details.

I love spreadsheets!! 8) I had added our information to the spreadsheet... but how do I get to this quickly in the future? Can I somehow save a link to it? Make it a "favorite" somehow? Many thanks for setting this up!

If you are a PR and you are sponsoring your spouse, the VO will be based upon your spouse's eligible offices. If your spouse is in Bangaldesh, the application must go through Singapore. If your spouse is in the UK, your application may go through Singapore or London.

Technically there is no requirement you have a job, but of course you need to provide evidence that you can support your spouse. If your spouse has skills they can be considered by the VO as part of your evidence you won't require social assistance.

Good luck!

You do not need to prove minimum income on spousal sponsorships; however, when a dependent child is in the mix you will need to prove income (as opposed to just funds).

If you can overcome the income requirement imposed for wanting to sponsor a child, CIC may still bar you from sponsoring your wife and child if you cannot prove that a common-law relationship didn't exist or if your child was born before you were approved or even before you landed (as you have to declare changes in your application situation and that includes changes in family members and dependents).

I can prove my common law relationship no problem with that.I got married after doing my landing and baby was born much later so no issues there too.Was wondering only about not havign job in hand thats all.

Also my wife is in dubai which will be the Visa Office.London?

Thanks computer geek. Also my wife is in dubai UAE so teh visa office will be london? correct me if i am wrong

You're wrong, sorry.

Abu Dhabi processes all UAE applications except Federal economic applications, which are processed in London. Since this is a spousal application, it will remain in Abu Dhabi.

What about the income requirement? Without a job, he would be classified as unemployed while trying to sponsor a wife and child.

If he has $30,000 in the bank, that might help persuade CIC (assuming he includes a letter clearly stating it and proving it), but his application would still be going in for processing as unemployed.
