CIC considers e-mail to be a form of "writing" so the two paragraphs are consistent.

From what I've seen, they send PDF letters attached to e-mails. It saves them on postage and paper but basically uses the exact same process to generate the paperwork - in one case it is printed and mailed and the other it is attached and e-mailed.
computergeek i also read somewhere around here about people that never got notifications via e-mail from CIC - mainly because their e-mail was mispelled.. what do you think should be done in this case?

Thanks! Will expect the email on the day of their decision I suppose? Like 34 days after the day they received it? Roughly...

Hello everyone. After mailing photocopies of my passport to CIC after PPR, will CIC tell you that they have received it or will they only contact you when COPR is issued. I am also aware that no one knows exact timelines for CIC but how long does it usually take from PPR to COPR for the LA and Ottawa office? Thank you.

I'm curious. I thought that when they sent a PPR, they wanted the original, not photocopies. Enlighten me....

If you are from a visa-exempt country you are only required to send photocopies of your passport.

Don't they get sent with the initial application? I sent mine and never received a later PPR. Maybe it's different in the US.

That's what I thought too because I did send photocopies with my initial application but they requested two photos along with my passport photocopies.

Hi i just want to ask something. I'm on a work permit under a live-in caregiver program for 8months and my fiance and I are getting married on may. After our wedding he wants to sponsor me to become a permanent resident because he wants me to stay and be with him 24/7. So i dont know how this going to work because i'm still in contract to my employer and live in their place. I read some in this blog that if my spouse spnsor me i can also apply for a open work permit. Can you give me some advise. Also i came here in canada as a international student then converted my status to a live in caregiver then now my fiance is planning to sponsor me after the wedding. I need your advise what is the best decision. Thanks

Yes, you can apply for an open work permit. While they mull over your application for an open work permit you are covered by "implied status" and may continue working. The fact you changed status previously (from student to worker)does not matter.

Note: you only get implied status if your current work permit is valid at the time CIC receives your OWP application.

I applied for PR under the Spousal Class. My wife and I are married. I got my AIP, letter from CIC. Also, on the CIC portal Stage 1 reads Decision Made, while Stage 2 reads IN Process. What is the next step as CIC did not send a letter stating what to do next as it relates to Medical or background information. I received AIP January 28, 2014. My application was sent April 30, 2013.

in this case the best option is to do inquiry through your local MP and also do GCM notes. They will not re spawned to your emails and if possible call them on the call center if they pick up tell them your email address has been misspelled.

What is the first step i need to do?my work permit is valid until april 2016. Under live in caregiver program i can apply for open work permit after 2 years of continous working at my current employer. Do i need to finish my 2 years before i can apply for an open work permit?or i will apply at the same time with my spouse application. I'm a liitle bit confused. Thanks

Send them email. If you want to send it to CPC-M their email is question@cic.gc.ca and VO email address is available in your SA. Please quote your UCI, DOB, name, email and country of birth. The email they will must respond because it is recorded.

You should wait for applying for the open work permit. Chances are that you could receive permanent residence before your 2 years is expired, at which point you wouldn't need an open work permit.

Also, depending on your situation, it seems you might be applying for permanent residency under Inland status. Undestand that you cannot leave Canada during this time or your application will be void and will have to start over. Fellow form members, please advise if I'm incorrect about this.

If you must leave Canada during the processing of your application, it would be best to apply outside Canada. This means your country of origin VO (Visa Office) will handle all aspects of your application once your application leaves Vegraville.

Hope this helps.
