How long ago did you become a PR? Were you already married/common-law (ie lived together for 12 months) at the time you landed? If so, was your spouse declared?
You can sponsor him, but it will go through his country of nationality's VO. He can only go through London if he has been admitted for at least a year.

Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I got the PR last year mid, and at that time i was not married so i couldn't declare.

Furthermore, the application process takes approx 4 months so is it possible to file the case before 4 months and till the time file would be there it would be 1 year.

Thanks

You can request processing through London, but CIC can still send it to the applicant's country of nationality. Where is your spouse from?

Hello fellow members,

I have some questions regarding sponsoring my wife. She is already in Canada on PGWP and we got married in Oct in India. I have to apply for her PR soon but confused with the name change thing on the passport. Can some please answer my below queries:

1. If she wants to get her name changed on her passport (she wants to get my last name added to her's) should she do it now ? wouldn't it complicate her PR application due to recent name change.?

2. And if she doesn't ever gets her name change on passport does it really matters with PR application ?

3. As to get the name change on passport BLS India processing time is 2 months, and should she get the name change first and then apply for PCC or get PCC first and then apply for name change and then apply for PR ?

4. Is it wise to apply Outland or Inland.?

I need your advice members, please suggest.

Thanks in advance.

WellWisher.

NewbieMay,

When they send PPR it means your visa is ready and they have asked you to send your passport so they can stamp one time entry visa on it. DM means Decision made. As you said its approx a month when they sent you the PPR, they usually take 20-30 days (excluding transit times) to stamp the visa on your passport and send it back to you. so you should wait another 10-15 days to receive your passport back.

Best of luck.

Hi there everyone!

Teeny bit of background. My husband is sponsoring me. We have been in the system since early June. My medical is soon to expire (2 weeks). We wrote to London about this and the reply came back

"Please be advised that the initial review has been completed and the application is now awaiting review by the Immigration Officer"

I have been searching a number of threads and I can't find out what this might mean in terms of time frame. ECAS reads application received.

If anyone has a similar experience of getting such a message and has an idea of what it might mean in timeframes (if anything) I'd appreciate any advice.

;D

Do you mean you're a Canadian Permanent Resident, and now want to sponsor your new husband?

If so and you apply outland then yes, you are supposed to include his police and medical check with the application. However since Pakistan Islamabad office is one of the longest ones for processing, you should check in the Islamabad thread and ask there. Perhaps due to long wait times they will let you delay sending in medicals since they will just expire anyways.

Also note you must be residing in Canada, in order to send the application. You can't send it while you are in Pakistan. Also you must continue to reside in Canada during the entire process. with only vacations allowed to leave Canada.

Hi All,

I am really stuck with this new change of 5 year ban on sponsorship by those who themselves became permanent resident by marriage sponsorship.
However, my situation is slightly different and I am not sure if I am affected or not by this change.

I came here as a student on a 1 year long course and immigrated as a Skilled Worker. Prior to immigrating I was married and my ex-wife's points were also added in qualifying me for Skilled Worker(SW-1) category.
I wasn't sponsored under family class not she sponsored me. My exwife was a Canadian citizen at the time and I was on a work-permit. We have been divorced for about 11 months now.

Now that I am divorced as of last year and would like to remarry someone from India. I would like to know if I will be able to sponsor her or not under spousal sponsorship.

Please provide your valuable input.

I think not for another 1 year. you cant sponsor anyone until 2 years of your divoce.
