Computergeek,so that mean I might not get approved? ,what did you mean about fell behind the filing cabinet?.Man,now I'm even more stress about this situation..Let me know if you have any thought cuz that would of help me a lot ,Thanks.

Sorry, I was attempting to be humourous. You should be inquiring about the status of your file to make sure it did NOT get lost because you are beyond normal processing time. I'd strongly suggest that you both request your CAIPS/GCMS notes via the ATIP process as well as contacting CIC to find out what is happening on your application.

Thanks for the advice,I will give them a call tomorrow because I'm so stress about this.Thnx.Thats weird bc they wrote us a letter on December 2011,they told us to drop an application for sponsorship in Quebec n we did that,we got approved by Quebec. The office from Quebec sent them all the informations about the applications, the CIC wrote us on April 2012 because they needed more informations n we sent them, not even a couples of days after.Since then, nothing been upgraded,no letter, nothing. So I really don't know

Well, people seem to have mixed results in using the call centre, but I hope it works for you.

It sounds like there are some issues in your case that account for the longer processing time - any time you hear from CIC it pretty much guarantees a delay in the process.

hi guys, i applied for spouse visa at the Sri Lanka ofice. His medicals expired last week.

my husband got the following email today:

"In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following:

Please provide all the passports that you have owned. This must be received at this office by 11/04/2012"

I am so confused and anxious about this email? have any of you heard of the colombo visa office or any other visa office asking for all the passports owned like this before? or why do u guys think they have such a request?

Good news then. For an inland application that would normally indicate AIP.

Thank you,

shame we are not living together anymore because I had to come back to the UK! I guess he will have to come here instead for a while and we try again. I guess we can apply for another spousal visa a year down the line if we are both living in the UK.
He was born here so no trouble for him to come over, typical really!

So we got an email saying the sponsor assessment is cleared and that the file has been transferred to Ottawa. I thought after the sponsor assessment the file goes to the visa office? Why did it go to Ottawa?

Congratulations on sponsor approval!

The applicant is from the US. US applications are now being processed in Ottawa, except for the final paperwork, which is being issued by LA, unless your file is transferred to a satellite office for processing (Seattle, Detroit, NYC, or LA), such as in the case of an interview.

Thanks computergeek. Is the processing time now 12 months? That's what it says for Detroit? Also in the letter they mentioned my wife's maiden name not her married name. Was there a reason they did that?

According to the CIC website (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp) the current processing time for Detroit is 12 months for family class applications. That is, 80% of applications are completed within 12 months.

Please note that with the closure of Buffalo and move of most processing to Ottawa these numbers are - at best - suspect. Check back in 12-18 months and we'll have better estimates for you....

Hi;

Can someone please reply. I have reposted it many times..Pl reply

We received the passport request from NewDelhi VO. Have few concerns

1) How long would the VO hold the passport? Applicant has got a travelling job and long time passport hold might affect his job? Any solution to this problem?

2) Once the passport request is made, how long can the passport despatch be delayed?? Along with the PR processing, applicant is also trying for an internal transfer (still to get an answer from the company). So wondering it would be better to wait and hear from company about internal transfer as obtaining work visa might be quicker than Passport stamping?

3) Is sending passport cross country illegal? Applicant in Singapore and VO is NewDelhi. Any idea of how to tackle the problem. Making a trip to India for passport submission is costly, any other option?

Would appreciate a reply
Thanks
Vee

If you don't get replies it is probably because nobody here knows the answer directly. Perhaps someone in one of the ND threads might be better situated to answer, although much of what you ask is going to be beyond anyone's knowing.

ND is notorious for requesting the passport at the beginning of processing, and thus it can often be 6 months or longer before they return it. No other visa office does this as far as I know.

At some point they will send you a final letter that says "if we don't get your passport we will assume your application has been abandoned and close your file" or something of that sort. I've never gone through the ND passport process, but I've read some stories. I suspect you are right, in that a work permit and TRV is likely faster to process than the PR application, but I'd be speculating.

Apparently it is illegal to ship a passport outside India, yes. What people seem to do is have a person in India they trust carry it on their behalf and then submit it in India. I have never seen anyone claim it is unlawful to send a passport inside India by mail, but someone more familiar with Indian law would be better to answer this question definitively.
