I have a question in behalf of a friend. She is a permanent resident in Canada and she wants to sponsor her husband to Canada. However, currently, she doesn't have any income besides the Child tax benefit she is receiving for her 4 year old son who has developmetal delays. She really needs her husband in Canada for support as she is pregnant and about to give birth in June. Her mother though is willing to help out with sponsorship of her husband need be. Is she eligible to sponsor her husband provided her current situation. please help.

When you sponsor someone to come to Canada you have to sign an undertaking that says that you will be financially responsible for them for 3 years. If your friend doesn't have a job I think they will be concerned with how she will be able to support her husband financially.

I know there's a way to apply for humanitarian and compassionate considerations, but I don't know anything about that, or if your friend would qualify.

Maybe someone else can help. Let's wait and see.

there are plenty of sponsors who successfully sponsor their spouses and don't have income/a job. what cic cares about is how you plan to support yourself and the applicant once approved without having to go on social welfare. any social welfare taken after landing as a pr (either the applicant or sponsor), the sponsor will be obligated to pay it back. what people do in this situation is submit proof of help from family members and provide a plan of how you intend to support yourselves upon approval. it's not impossible, just requires extra information in your package.
