Hi everyone,

I'm in canada on a visitor visa that expires by the end of January 2018, I have applied for PR in November through spousal sponsorship.
I have just received an email from immigration center including my UCI and application number in order for me to link my application.

Is this email considered as AOR ? am I on an implied status now ?

Thank you

Yes that is your aor.

Yes, that email was the AOR. However, applying for PR does not give you implied status. You have to maintain a valid status while you wait for the PR. If you have applied for an Open Work Permit at the same time (OWP) you will have an implied status. If not, you better request and extensions of your visitor status.

Cheers!

I'm never sure about it. If you have experience, please tell me.

I already asked this question last month and one guy here told me that OWP does not help me if I want to travel to America, as my visitor visa time is expired (6 months) although my visitor visa status still lasts until 2019 and multiple. He recommended me to applied for TRV or something... (sorry, I don't remember exactly, but since I felt like it was complicated, I was thinking cancelling my trip to USA)

Hi,
Is anyone here March 2017 applicant?
Just wondering what your timeline is like so far?

OWp will help as a supporting document when you re entry canada along with your valid Temporary Resident visa (tRV) but ofcourse its not a`100% guarantee that they will allow to enter canada since you are not a PR yet.. I called cic for this matter few months ago since im planning to go for a vacation this year while waiting for my pr application.. it might not be a 100% guarantee but they said as long as you satisfy the immigration officer in the airport with your answer and with your valid documents then you are good to enter canada ..

Happy New Year! I Just spoke to CIC in regards to my OWP application and their processing times. First the processing time is approximately 105 days not 6 weeks like I thought. He said for first time OWP sent with PR application, you must select “work permit extension with new employer” not the work permit one because that will say 6 weeks. My OWP was returned for insufficient fees and I sent it back right away. He also told me the 105 days starts over again from when they receive it :( My timeline is in my signature. There will always be lucky ones whom receive it earlier ;) He made sure my payments were correct and I do have implied visitor status and said it shouldn’t be too long :)

Thank you for your explanation! It helps me a lot to understand how papers work.

yes, you are a implied status if you received the AOR (principal applicant AOR) it only means cic acknowledge your application for PR meaning a pending application waiting for a final decision.. the only downfall if you dont have a valid status either temporary work permit or visitors visa or you choose not to renew your status while waiting is that ofcourse you cant do any waiting like able to work in canada or even going for a short vacation outside canada while waiting for the verdict of your pending application.it would be better for you to apply a owp or visa extension...

Feb 2017 applicant here. Last update i heard was that Medical passed and background check started.. this was back in June...waiting for an update

Thank you for you reply! I am a March 28, 2017 applicant, AOR received April 7, Background check etc completed in May 2017. I still haven’t received a medical request; however in my CIC account, it’s been “we are processing your background” for the past 2 months. Hoping for positive updates soon! Good luck with your application.

March 2017 applicant.

Meds submitted/passed around June/July 2017. Background process initiated around late October.

Since then, there is a pin drop silence :confused:. really hope they process some files since holidays are over now.

Hi everyone!
I submitted my application a few weeks ago, but I realized today that I'd missed something from the guidelines:
The order of documents should be as follows:
checklist;
open work permit application (and supporting documents), if applicable;
any barcode pages;
supporting documents, in the order they’re listed on the checklist.

I did not submit my forms with that order. Has anyone submitted an application with incorrect order of documents? I'm just wondering how important that really is!

It is important, but think that the receiving clerks go through the file anyways to re-arrange and sort the documents. I wouldn't worry too much as long as all the requested documents are submitted.

You dont have implied status when applied for PR only. Quote from CIC website:

"In situations where an applicant who has visitor status submits an application for permanent residence to a case processing centre in Canada and, at the same time, submits an application for a work permit [pursuant to paragraph R207(b)], the visitor may be considered to have requested an extension of their temporary resident status [in accordance with subsection R183(5)]. They are considered to have implied status as a visitor, until a decision is made on their work permit application.

When no application for a work or study permit is received with the application for permanent residence, the applicant is obliged to apply to extend their visitor status."
