Hello all!

Applied on December 20, 2016. Received an email on March 29, 2017 saying that OWP has been approved and has been dispatched via mail at my address.

Can anyone tell how long it takes for the mail to come ?? I live in Toronto.

I want to ask fellow members, what are the next steps to be taken after I receive OWP. I know I have to apply for SIN number. Is there anything else I am missing out ??

What should be the next steps in my application should I expect to happen chronologically ?? Hope everything goes well.

Thanks all in advance. Good luck with your applications

You mean Service Canada.

If you have a full time job, and are in Ontario, ask me about OHIP after you start working...

thanks I understand now do any of you support bill c 6 changes or should keep it. I think should keep it because some people do not come to Canada for right reason they just want the card and come here when ever they want

There is some changes that are good and some I am on the fence about. Eg: Conditional PR rules. I totally understand it's pus pose, and realistically, it's correct. However, the language used and the test to decide who and who should not get it I feel is flawed.

I also think other things are flawed too in Canada. Not just C-6....

but the old government put so many bills in the immigration side

@Profiler....so from your experience after a person gets the opw and finds a job and starts working, he/ she is eligible for ohip? Even though pr residence is still in process? I m just curious to know.

Sure. And eventually, democracy will remove them I believe

My wife got an OWP in June (end of). Started working in September. She got OHIP in December. Only got AIP (so still in process) two days ago.

Full time temporary workers are eligible after 3 Mos of employment as long as they have a letter stating they plan to keep the person employed for 6 months or more.

I wrote the letter. Her bosses signed it. Deal done.

Wow good to hear. I plan to start working the day after i get my work permit. My new employer is so willing to have my on his team...cheers for your swift reply.

OOPS :o My bad. Must be a stressful day for me. I am so sorry GuyanaGirl. :) , what stage are you at BTW?

Lol, BTW Profiler, do you have any idea how OHIP differs from say Alberta health card? I have one from the month after I started my PhD as a full time student. Now, do I have to do anything with that post my PR? Or, does it stay the same?
