Yay! Congratulations. Did you receive it in the mail or just saw it was approved online? OWP was approved 3rd June online but haven't physically received it so I haven't added it to the spreadsheet as yet. Maybe it will be in the mail tomorrow.
Congratulation to you Sipfarms!

Thanks, same to you! I haven't received a letter yet, just the email via MyCIC - but I bet the paper OWP will come in soon for you too - we're in the same location so it might just take that little bit longer... It took about 10 days after the online approval for the paper version of my visitor extension to come in as well. I hope it comes in soon for you!

Government addresses spousal backlog and wait times

Ottawa, June 13, 2016 – As part of its commitment to family reunification, the Government of Canada will grant permanent residence to more spouses, partners and dependent children of Canadian citizens and permanent residents this year. This will significantly reduce the backlog of existing applications and speed up processing times going forward.

Each year, the Government sets how many permanent residents Canada intends to admit through its various immigration categories during the year. This is done with the annual immigration levels plan. The plan for 2016 reflects the Government's key priorities for immigration, which include bringing more families together.

This year, the Government increased the number of spaces allowed for spouses, partners and dependent children by 14 000, bringing it up to 62 000 spaces.

Over the past few years, more people have applied to come to Canada in the spousal category than there was space for in previous immigration levels plans; this has created a backlog. This year, the Government will reduce this backlog.

Tackling the spousal backlog will ease the uncertainty faced by spouses and partners wanting to move forward and build their lives in Canada with their family and help them integrate into our communities and our economy.

Increasing the number of admission spaces for spouses and partners is one of the measures the Government has taken to support family reunification. Through Budget 2016, $25 million was also allocated to support faster and more predictable processing times for family sponsorship.

What this means for applicants
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has begun to work on reducing its current spousal sponsorship backlog.

Reducing the backlog means complete and straightforward spousal sponsorship applications will be finalized faster.

The backlog reduction applies to applications received through the family class (overseas processing) as well as the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class (in-Canada processing).

All applications will continue to undergo the necessary screening to ensure that individuals do not pose a health, safety or security risk to Canadians and that the relationships are genuine.

If you have already submitted an application to sponsor your spouse or partner, IRCC may contact you to advise you if we need additional information to help process your application. You do not need to contact us, but please make sure your file is up to date.

If you are contacted, please respond to any communication you receive from us within the time frame provided in order to ensure that we can properly process your application. The success of our efforts relies on your cooperation.

If you have not yet submitted an application to sponsor your spouse or partner but plan to do so, the application will not be dealt with as part of our backlog reduction efforts, but it will be processed as quickly as possible.

IRCC's work to reduce the backlog will eventually benefit all spousal applicants—whether they are already in the backlog or submitting a new application—by bringing down wait times for all.

Find general information on family sponsorship, and find answers to your questions at the Help Centre.

Hey Sipfarms. I was also approved June 3rd but as I am using a law firm as representatives they sent the OWP to them and they received it 2 days after I rang CIC to ask them if I was approved (I rang them on 6th June) so it took them 5 days to get the OWP to my lawyers but not sure if using a representative helps speed up how quickly they get the OWP out. I now have my physical OWP as the lawyers couriered it to me the next day (9th June). If you have not received your physical OWP by the end of next week I would give them a call, Canada Post can be slow though so maybe give them another week or two.
Thanks Crais84.

I see that as good news. Fingers crossed that by the time my OWP permit expires I will be a permanent resident by then. I figure that in 2 years they will have reduced the backlog so that PR maybe only takes 1 year or less after submission.

Hello guys,

Why is the MPI doesn't allow to apply for Drivers License on an implied status? they don't recognized it.

It clearly said on the CIC on a newly updated info on Implied status:

"A temporary resident must apply to extend their period of authorized stay before it ends. If they have done so, their period of authorized stay as a temporary resident is extended by law until a decision is made [R183(5)]. Such a person is considered to have implied status as a temporary resident during that period."

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/visa/validity/implied.asp

I just want to ask. While waiting for months it's better to have a DL to at least help your spouse for the errands.

Thank you.

good question, does MPI allow driver license while on Work Permit? because as far as CIC is concerned, implied status gives you all the same benefits of having a current valid work permit

MPI allows it on OWP. But my point is, while waiting on your inland application and OWP for months, Its better to have a drivers license to help your spouse doing errands and especially doing grocery by yourself while your spouse is working.

And the most important is you have a valid drivers license before your OWP arrrives. Its more easy to apply in the job opening because one of the requirements here is you must have a valid drivers license. thank you

What do you think?

I agree with you, and the CIC needs to address this problem because many people are holding up their lives while waiting for an unreasonable amount of time for their PR applications to be processed

perhaps the Minister of Immigration needs to call the Minister in charge of driver's licensing and tell them the situation, or fix the situation on the CIC side of things and give us some kind of immediately printable online documentation that we can show that we are under implied status, as of now it is just the receipt of payment we can print out, but that doesn't tell the Motor Vehicle people what it means

I agree. I hope they can fix this for the people here in Canada whose waiting for their immigration application results.

Hello Everyone,

I've checked online my ECAS and my home address is different from mailing address.
I've worked in other country before (not my home country) that's the address they inputed in my mailing address.
for inland application we inputed our mailing and home address are the same. Both here in Canada.

what seems to be the problem? it end up like that.
Can i just Changed it online? or call CIC first?

Thank you

We got something in the mail today. Our OWP app got sent back. We missed a signature on form 5710 ::)

My spouse's status expired last May 26th.

My questions are:

-Aside from form 5710, is there another form we should submit? I understand that we need to pay $200 restoration fee on top of the OWP fee.

-Do we have to pay another $255? Our receipt was sent back too.

-Since they only sent back the OWP app, does that mean that our PR app is safe?

I would double check that you don't qualify for a drivers licence. Take your previous visa as well as AOR for partner visa. My daughter had Ontario & then BC drivers licence on IEC so don't understand why you wouldn't qualify.
