1. My wife and I applied for me to be sponsored in April of 2016. I received AOR in June. In August I was asked to provide a police certificate from the FBI (I'm a yank unfortunately lol). In September i was notified that they received the document and that my background check went to " IN PROGRESS ." Since then there has been no movement in my application. Does any one know or have an idea of the background check process? I mean my file should be straight forward being my wife and i have two children in common. I've never been arrested for anything at all either.
We'll try to over look that ;).
In progress means their are either collecting the documents, or they are reviewing them. Inland, that takes forever it seems.

2. I just applied for my OWP just last week as i was hoping to receive AIP first but that didn't happen lol. How long is the process? Has anyone been refused an OWP while waiting to be sponsored?
~4 mos to get the OWP. OWP refusal is pretty low with inland applications. If you have an inland PR application in, and you are not out of status, you'll get one.

3. How do i add my timeline to my profile?
On canadavisa.com it's in the "profile" section in the menu. I think you have to have 10 posts or something. In the spreadsheet, you just add an entry to the "New Entry" tab...

Thank you all!
You bet.

Hey that's awesome! That would put you on the same timeline I was projecting for other who are from Dec 2015...

I Think it may delay a little bit as my medical is sue next week. I am also having another problem with my kids back there in my home country. The CIC is requesting their medical too which by some reasons I cannot do it. I am Frustrating for my Application return. Any Clue.

Gosh! your words are soul relaxing though.. Thanks

You can always +1 me. I did answer in the 2015 thread. Unfortunately, they need to do that medical, or forever be excluded from sponsorship..

OK, inlanders.

I have created a new sheet for those who want to play along with the "Guess your DM date" game we started yesterday. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1fS4dhQhkyJuEa3U1OkcJDDYqHk9VyvK6SQP9Jhh2eyk/edit?usp=sharing

Add your canadavisa.com moniker, and the date you think you should be done by. When you do finish, update the actual date :).
Fun. I'll play. I'm still hoping for less than 1 year total for all of us in the 2016 boat.
I hate this American mm/dd/yyyy date formatting though. I try to always refer to ISO 8601.

Hello Everyone,
I hope someone can help me on this one. So I sponsored my husband inland back in November, we sent in an app for OWP as well. His current status is visitor (valid until September 2017). However, he has to go back home due to family reasons, I'll be joining him as well later and we plan to come back together in a couple of weeks. However, he doesn't have a TRV (his old one expired when his work permit expired back in September). We plan to apply for TRV from out of Canada (since you need a WP or SP to apply inland for TRV). Also, would it be an issue if I were to make an invitation letter for him as his wife? And say that I am inviting him for a visit since it will be a tourist visa because it is from his home country. Is an invitation letter required?

Just wondering what anyone's experiences are in this situation? Will there be an issue of us leaving the country for a couple weeks only given that we have a sponsorship app in progress?

Thanks,

mars

Hi if he leaves the country, that mean your husband inland application can be cancelled

will they let him in with the TRV though? cause he has valid status in Canada already and is only leaving for a couple weeks cause he has no other choice...and I mean we will still be together and everything.

He consulted with his immigration consultant and she agreed that this was his best option given the circumstances. But I just wanted to find out what people's experiences were with leaving the country.

There is a huge risk to leave before he has the OWP. Even with the OWP there is always some risk, but not as great. Is the Visa a multiple-entry?
If denied re-entry---the app would be cancelled and you'd have to reapply outland.

You can go at your own risk---but just be warned it's all up to the agent that you are seeing upon returning. I know of one person who left because her children were involved in a terrible accident--and in the ICU of the hospital. She ended up having a TERRIBLE time coming home to Canada. Yes, in the end they let her through, but hours and hours at customs.

Playing devil's advocate here: The problem is managing "Dual Intent". They will know there is a PR application in play. So, what CBSA needs to know is that, the PA will abide by the laws of Canada. If they are not approved, will they go home. What's the draw to go home. So, bring proof of family ties, financial ties, property, etc etc.

Funny story: My wife was told about needing to be truthful, no matter how it may look with the CBSA. So, her last time through Pearson's CBSA desk, they asked why she was seeking entry into Canada. "To be with my husband." Brought her dog and everything. She was escorted into the little room where they started typing out her answers into FOSS/GCMS. Everything she said was recorded. They did indicate to her that "You cannot just file an application and stay, that's not how it works." They tried for about 45 minutes to trip her up. They then stamped her passport, and wrote in a date 6 months - 1 day from the date she entered, and let her go -- no inspection of the dog or luggage.

The moral: Bring evidence with you that a PR application has been filed, an OWP/SP/WP if the PA has them, and proof that there is still ties home. The reasonable expectation is, if OP is able to convince the officer at the time of entry that they will return home if an application is refused, they should permit entry. But there are a lot of factors they consider when permitting entry...

Hi Guys,
I’m new here. Just received Acknowledgment letter and it says to submit police certificate from my home country and country I’m currently live. I called cic and they told me that they not sure if I should submit Canadian criminal check as well. Does anybody had the same issue? I don’t know whether I should do Canadian police check. Please any advice.
Thank you

Does the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) request state Canada, or request for fingerprints? It's unlikely that's it's necessary. But if they requested it on the letter you received, then you should do it.
