Hi Profiler , I'm from a visa-requiring country. I usually apply for a Temporary Visa ( Visitor Visa ) every time after I got my study permit or work permit extension approved in order to be able to re-enter Canada when I travelled out of the country. Now that since I've become an applicant for In-Land PR, do you think I will be able to do the same thing after I got my OWP approved ? Plus I actually still have the valid work permit and TR till April 2017, do you think I will run into the re-entry issue if I travel of Canada during this period ??

An in Canada application has the expectation that you intend to stay in Canada while it's processed. Any time you cross the border you can encounter a CBSA guard who could deny you (re)entry. If that happens, your application is in jeopardy.

That said, you could try to apply for a visitor visa so they would permit you (re)entry. I cannot say if they would grant it, or why they haven't just granted a multiple entry visitor visa (that's the norm now).

Hi Profiler ,thanks for your reply. They've actually granted me a multiple TRV that expires on the same date with my work permit ends. Sigh... I wasn't aware that being an In-land applicant could prevent me from re-entering Canada even though I have a valid TRV. :'(

It doesn't prevent you. The inland application is only an application until it's approved or refused. It has no magical powers.

CBSA does. They can allow or deny entry to whoever. If they refuse (re)entry, then your application could be cancelled. It's a risk you have to be willing to accept. After all, the inland application has the expectation that you want to remain in Canada while it's being processed...

Yes, he has OWP. Does that mean he does not need to renew his TRV?

I was thinking since students with study permits have to have a TRV, if from a visa required country then the same would apply for work permit.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

No the OWP enables the PA to remain in Canada during application processing. No TRV required.

I guess he would only need it if he had to leave for an emergency but there would be no guarantee that CBSA will let him reenter.

My husband has traveled outside Canada a lot during our application - he has never had any issues re-entering! He's just always completely honest with the border officer.
