Within the next 30 days.. but I suspect less.Considering my experience with CIC, the statement "as soon as they look at your file again" kinda scarres me

I could be wrong, but I suspect they might require a restoration...the $200 fee. You'll find out soon enough!4 months is the "normal" processing time. Recently, people got it in 3-3.5 months. Because, my understanding (I can be wrong) is that because you lost your status, they didn't consider your OWP application. Now that you have AIP, you have status, and again, that's my understanding, it's like you would apply for the OWP on the day they gave you AIP.
It's not in Mississauga. It's in Vegreville AB. Totally separate offices. And I suspect you'll have to wait the 4 months. I don't think there is much you can do to change that. You can call CIC, or have your sponsor express concern to an MP. Though lately it seems like they are hit and miss for wanting to help in immigration cases..Ah, I did not realize it would take that long for the OWP. Why does it take so long to approve the OWP when it went to the same office as my sponsorship application? I am unsure of what could possibly disqualify it from being approved at this point.
We are in a tight financial situation and would benefit greatly from myself being able to work, so I am wondering if I contact CIC of they would be willing to issue it in a quicker timeframe?
Congratulations!!!Landed today!!!

In the first month, do you mean April-May 2016?sent it in the first month, they said "medical report received"
My interpretation is that they can finally apply... Once you reach 90 days out of status, you are blacklisted from applying (sort of), until AIP. But you're not in any status because of AIP. It just says you're eligible. So I suspect restoration may still be required. We never got into that spot, so I offered it as a caveat so the folks knowPage 36 IP-8:
Note: Applicants being processed for permanent residence under the spousal public policy on the basis that they do not have valid temporary resident status are not eligible to be issued an open work permit under these measures. They will be required to wait until they have met eligibility requirements, and received approval in principle, in order to be eligible to apply for an open WP.
So my understanding is that AIP gives a status. Because it says that after AIP the applicant is eligible, I don't think there is a need to apply for restoration of status.
