It's pretty easy. Allow me: In simplest terms, the cable box (assuming you have "digital" cable) is known as a "Settop Box" (or, STB). That's just a simple, mini computer. So, with that in mind, android boxes (or even regular computers) can function as STB's. You just get an IPTV subscription (that permits access to getting services), and just like your cable box, it allows you to stream video over a network (in this case, the internet).

The android boxes that most have (and use Kodi -- a software platform that allows people to stream pre-recorded and live TV from the net) can happily function as STB's as well.

But are you able to easily watch sports live? In my case, I watch both French and English channels... I don't know if I would be able to find everything... I know i should take some time to look at that... I even never watched anything on Netflix...
Yes digital, from Videotron. I did switch my internet services for a small provider that uses.... videotron network.... for about half the price.

I hate Netflix. But the Kodi platform has plugins that do allow you to stream shows like Netflix does.

In terms of IPTV (Live TV), I have all the Sportsnet channels, I have Bein (French sports), I have Sky sports, etc. I have access to everything that Bell Fibe has as well. I have 1300 (or so) channels from various languages and places in the world.

Why does it take forever for new movies to come out on Phoenix?

Bell... they come knocking at my door every 2-3 months. I hate that company, especially for their (absent) customer services.

What's the installed memory in the box. Can you find it online? It's probably because you have cached videos that you have watched (the box does this to combat the transient nature of the internet), and you may need to clear the cache. I don't generally use Phoenix. I use Specto or Genesis usually, but you can catch me on Primewire (1Channel) if there is something I want that I can't seem to get.

When they first came out, they refused to offer video with captions or subtitles (my ex is hard of hearing). Then when I tried to cancel my subscription (there was not enough content + lack of accessibility), they continued to bill me until I was sent a new card from my credit provider. Then they started sending me ridiculous emails, despite me having cancelled, and them acknowledging such. #NoThanks.

EDIT: In terms of new movie releases... once a movie has been released digitally (usually a couple weeks from when it first starts screening), we can get the HD/1080p version.

I don't have to deal with them. I just use streamed TV and access that I am paying $15/mnth -- so if something is broke, I find something else to do or watch.

At first I thought that about the content too but they have a lot of documentaries, which I like. The also have a lot of what my husband calls Shaolin moves which he loves and I hate. We also watch a lot of Indian movies on Netflix and non English movies with subtitles.

I edited my previous reply because I forgot to answer your question about movies. There is a Kodi plugin for Documentaries. Also, if you install cCloud you can pick up live TV or channels where they have that kind of stuff (for a while, that's how I watched MSNBC... but sometimes it's not reliable).

Anything on Netflix is usually available through Kodi.

Also, your complaint about memory is why I "upgraded". Now I have a hard drive

Fair warning: there is lots of nudity in the first season. My wife didn't want to watch either.....and she's soo hooked that we binged watched almost all the seasons (1-5) 2015 Christmas...
