Hello everyone,
We are about to make an inland application for my wife under the spouse in Canada class category. Alongside, we are also making an application for the open work permit.
My wife is from a visa exempt country. However, she is currently on a visitor visa expiring on December 24, 2016 (this summer her work permit expired and we applied for an extension to stay under a visitor visa without her leaving the country).
We are now considering to also apply online for the visitor visa extension after sending the in-land spousal application. I understand that by applying for an open work permit alongside she will go under implied status and we won't have to apply for the visitor visa extension. However, our concern is that the CIC can return your application package if they feel something is missing in it (I really hope they don't) and if that were the case, we would have to reapply. There is always a possibility that it happens after her existing visitor visa has expired and we don't want to be in a stage where she is without a valid status in Canada. This is our rationale for applying for a visitor visa extension as well.
So I would like to ask for advice on the following questions:
1) In her visitor visa application, is it ok to say that we are requesting an extension as we have applied for the PR under spouse in Canada class?
2) What is the maximum period for which a visitor visa can be extended? I know six months is usual but can we ask for 1 year (or more)?
3) I will covering the cost of my wife's stay in Canada. Do I need to attach a letter confirming that? Do I also need to attach proof of income, bank statements etc.
Thank you.
