Hi,

I sponsored my wife whom arrived in Feb 2015 and is a PR. My wife and I now want to sponsor/co-sponsor her mother. Question i have is with regards to form IMM5768E. It asks about previous undertakings. It asks, "number of persons included in previous undertakings you signed as a sponsor and that are still in effect."

The question i have is what does in effect mean? I have successfully sponsored my wife and she is here as a permanent resident. Does that mean its no longer in effect? or is it still in effect?

Thanks

Your wife's sponsorship undertaking is still in effect from your side. I think it remains in effect for 2 years (check the original undertaking you signed when you sponsored your wife). The reason being, lets say that your wife leaves you and goes on social assistance, then you are still on the hook to pay back the government the money she receives.

Actually it's 3 years of financial responsibility after the wife lands as PR. Not 2 years. You may be confusing it with the 2 year conditional PR. Completely different.

As in OP's case, he is responsible for his wife financially until Feb 2018. 3 years after wife lands as PR feb 2015.

Agreed.

Thanks for the responses. So i have to answer as 1, for the number of persons still in effect.

thanks

Yes. That is correct.

Had you apply for PGP 3 years after your wife landed, then the answer is 0.
