You are both missing the point. I am not asking to use OHIP. But you cannot buy regular medical insurance in Canada - and that is the issue. Also, how am I different from any other naturalized citizen whose non-Canadian born parents are already here and using healthcare and getting social security / pension after 10 years sponsorship - my taxes help support them as well. So why should I not also expect the same benefit? In the US, parents of citizens are cleared in less than 2 years and the medical evaluation is a breeze. Canada drags its feet because of healthcare costs - so change the rules so that it benefits everybody. At the very least, allow us to insure our own parents for regular medical costs.
