K2C I checked out his blog in quite detail, and he did not go into any detail about how to send the money back to Canada other than "it is done easily once you have the correct paperwork." I am guessing, once the wife has the VISA it won't be a huge issue.

Question about the 'Sponsor Questionnaire'

Number 7: Do I seriously have to try to contact my former employers from 4 years ago? Especially since I was working part time at a lot of those places. Man that is frustrating paperwork.

Number 8: I have lived in Korea for almost 11 years and have have moved around atleast 10 times. I seriously hope I don't have to give all of those addresses and phone numbers. I have no idea how to contact my first employers anyway.

Also, I was not born in Canada but received citizenship by decent, do I have to include my living in another country as a baby as well? I know the date that I entered Canada as a child, so it is not a huge issue. Just curious.

We might have already covered this one, but concerning the "Additional Family Information" from my wife's section of the application, does she have to fill that out? None of her family is coming with her and we have no children together.

You must gives the names, addresses and phone numbers for your employers for the past five years. You don't necessarily need to contact them. I've also worked a ton of part time jobs. I didn't list the part time ones, just the main gigs I've had in that time period, which in my case was 3 places. If you don't have the address and don't want to contact them, use Google maps and get something close. It now shows Korean street names in English so you should be able to figure it out.

Unfortunately you will. Again, if you can't recall the names use Google maps to figure it out. I've been here 12 years and had the same problem. It's a pain in the butt but you don't have a choice. For my first residence, I just couldn't recall the phone number so I typed in "Can't recall phone number"

Also, I was not born in Canada but received citizenship by decent, do I have to include my living in another country as a baby as well? I know the date that I entered Canada as a child, so it is not a huge issue. Just curious.
Sorry, don't know about this one.

Yes she must complete it and indicate in "Note 2" that she has no children.

My first residence in Korea is actually gone, seriously the building was demolished a few years ago(I live near there now and drove my wife around the area to show where I lived first in Korea), do I still have to figure out the address even though it was 11 years ago?

I guess I will have to go through old mail I have recieved in Korea and see if I find an address, I should be able to find most of my old address atleast, just not that one.

As for the jobs part, I have been working 'part time' jobs here in Korea since 2007, this will be a pain in the butt for me.

BTW, thanks for the suggestions/help.

The building is gone but the address is still there. Why not take a drive by with your wife, since it's close by. She'll be able to figure it out. Personally I've never really understood Korean addresses and I'm guessing the guy in Ottawa reviewing my application probably doesn't either.

It was for me too. There were just so many of them and quite a few that didn't last longer than 6 months. Listing them all and locating the info for them would have been too cumbersome. To make the task a little easier I would suggest picking 3 or 4 or 5 jobs that give you a continuous stream of employment during the past 5 year period and just ignore the rest. That's what I did. I didn't see that employment history section as being one of the most important parts of the application anyway and wonder how some guy in Ottawa could possibly verify or question it. So, if you can fill up the past 5 years with something, you should be fine.

That's what I would do also. In all honesty, CIC will NOT be actually contacting any of the employers you listed, nor will they try to confirm any of the addresses that were only lived in for a short time. As long as there is a clear flow for the past 10 years, with no gap in the dates, then it should be fine. If you are off on an address by a digit or two, it won't be a big deal. Just make sure the most recent information is accurate, or if you are submitting proofs (like a shared financial account that shows a previous address) make sure it matches exactly.

Note for Korean citizens there is the Korean family register document which shows actual addresses lived in, so should make sure for applicant the CIC forms match up with this family register.

Technically if you're applying outland, you mean the person in Mississauga!

And then it's up to whoever in Manila to figure out the Korean addresses and info for the applicant.

I'm not sure. It seems to keep changing. Maybe someone else who's already in the Manilla system can say.
I submitted outland on October 2nd and was approved October 29th. I had to go through some more hoops for Quebec. Since then we have only had two emails. One was to fill out a form for the missing Deleted Family Census Register. The second was to say the file was transferred to Manila. According to their website on processing times Seoul has dropped from 11 to 10 months (I was surprised it wasn't removed) and Manila is at 12 months. I have a gut feeling that the Manila office time will only increase given the pile of files that they will be getting. In addition to familiarizing themselves with the Korean requirements. On top of which, they will have to revisit each dossier from the beginning.

PS Does anyone know when the website gets updated from "Application Received"?

Edit: I applied with common-law partner from Korea.

Korean Pay Stubs: do these have to be officially translated/notarized? Or, anything in Korean must be translated/notarized?

Certified True Copies: passports, birth certificates, marriage certificate, anything else? Or, anything photocopied must be a certified true copy?

Thanks guys for sharing what you know, it really helps!

Hello, I am a Canadian citizen living in Korea and am planning on moving back to Canada with my Korean wife (married 6 years). Do I have to fill out the sponsor forms and send them to be approved first, or can we send my application and hers at the same time? I know I have to send the application to the Manila office too.

Thank you for the help.
Hope this works.

Translations: I have read about people going to their GU offices and having documents translated and notarized. Apparently these offices have at least one staffer for their own translations, etc. I live near my GU office so I think I may check it out on the day my wife gets her Korean docs printed off there. Worth a try.

Relationship Photos - I have the photos printed. Now wondering how to arrange them. How much info should I put on the back of each photo? Date/Location/1 line caption? A picture is worth a thousand words so I though just a small caption would suffice....? I had most of them date stamped by the printing service.

From what I understand these are the Korean docs my wife has to get:

Chaejeok DeungBon (Old (deleted) Family Census Register) – translate & notarize

Kachok Kwangae Cheung Myeongseo (Family Relation Certificate) – translate & notarize

Honin Kwangae Cheung Myeongseo (Marriage Relation Certificate) – translate & notarize

Kibon Cheung Myeongseo (basic information) – translate & notarize

( plus police check, medical, passport, Entry/Exit print out from immigration )

Don't they need to be certified by a lawyer or Judge?

Korean Pay Stubs: do these have to be officially translated/notarized? Or, anything in Korean must be translated/notarized?
Probably, but why are you including them? They're not required if you're sending your option C and a letter from your current employer. (see Doc. Checklist Documents 17 and 18)

Certified True Copies: passports, birth certificates, marriage certificate, anything else? Or, anything photocopied must be a certified true copy?
I provided notarized originals of;

1. My wife's CBC
2. Family Relation Certificate
3. Marriage Relation Certificate
4. Old (deleted) Family Census Register

I didn't provide certified copies of her passport or National ID because I couldn't see anywhere in the guide, document checklist or Asia Specific Instructions that said you had to get these certified for Korean applicants. In fact, for her passport, the Asia Specific Instructions clearly state "only copies".

I wasn't sure about the marriage certificate as in Korea I think the Marriage Relation Certificate is your marriage certificate and the document checklist suggested you only needed to provide it if you had a co-signer who was your spouse, which is not the case for you or me. To be sure I included a photocopy of it anyway. Again, the document checklist said "photocopy" (see doc. 14) so i didn't provide a certified copy.

Same with my passport. The document checklist said photocopy, so I didn't certify it.
