Hi everyone,

I would like to know that is it possible that PR holder can sponsor one or more persons to come and live in Canada? If not, is it the right of Canadian citizen only? I know that your income will effect on how long you can sponsor somebody, but for example:

If person is a single, makes about $100K/year, would it be possible for him/her to sponsor two people?

It depends on who the people are? Explain. There is no difference between PR and citizen.

The people would be family members, like mother and brother for example.

No you can't.

If you can show 3 years of Canadian tax returns meeting suitable income, then you can sponsor your parents and include your brother in the app only if he's under 19 years old.

If he's older than that, then you can't sponsor him and he would need to immigrate to Canada independently.

In general you can only sponsor spouse, dependent children, or parents/grandparents. You can't sponsor any other family members unless you are alone in Canada and your parents are no longer living.

Thank you for your answer. I would immigrate to Canada alone.

You can sponsor your mother but along with mother is the rest of her family unit which is your father if he is also living and they are still married and their dependent children under 19 if any. Sponsoring parents, you must show that you have enough income to support them and that you have met this level of income for the past 3 years. You are responsible for supporting your parents for 20 years after they get PR. There is also a quota on parent applications. In 2016, when they opened for new applications, the quota was filled up in about 4 days so basically you have one chance each year to apply, make sure the application is there on the first day.

You can not sponsor adult siblings as others have said unless you are alone in Canada with no close relatives or spouse and you have no other closer relatives that you could still sponsor so for example, you would not be able to sponsor your brother under that clause if your mother is still alive.

You could however sponsor your brother under a PNP, for example if you live in Manitoba. You would have to have lived there for at least 1 year and your brother would have to be skilled in order to get points under their PNP but he would also get a number of points for having a close relative who is supportive of his immigration.
