I haven't done this before but I read elsewhere how to bring a non-Canadian child to Canada:

Apply for a TRV for the newborn (about 2 weeks)
Bring the newborn to Canada.
Apply for sponsorship inland

PR sponsor must remain in Canada during the application process.

Anyone else agree/disagree?

children can NOT be sponsored inland, as that is soley for SPOUSAL sponsorship. a child can ONLY be sponsored by the "outside of canada" route. if the parent can get a trv for the child to travel to canada before approval, then that is the best situation. otherwise, the child will need to remain out of canada until the application is approved by the appropriate visa office.

Simply out of curiosity but why would a PR be able to sponsor their spouse inland; however, not be able to sponsor their child inland?

Ahhh, I see it now.

If your spouse or partner lives with you in Canada, use the Application for Permanent Residence in Canada—Spouse or Common-Law Partner. Note: if a child of your spouse or partner is also living with you in Canada, they may be included on the application if they meet the definition of dependent child.

OR,
If your spouse, partner or dependent child lives outside Canada, use the Application to Sponsor a Member of the Family Class.
•If we approve you as a sponsor, the CPC will send your family member’s application to a Canadian visa office to be processed

i can't speak to "why", this is just how cic does things. a dependant child can only be included on an inland application if they are being added to a spousal sponsorship. otherwise, the only way to sponsor a dependant child is from outside of canada. here is the verbage from the cic application:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/spouse-apply-how.asp

If your spouse or partner lives with you in Canada, use the Application for Permanent Residence in Canada—Spouse or Common-Law Partner. In our situation, the spouse is already a PR and the child was born outside of Canada. so it's a brand new application only for him.
Can it be outland?? I've read it can only be done inland.

The only time a child can be sponsored inland is through H&C route. H&C is usually reserved for those whose lives are in danger in their native country. So unless your child's life is in danger in the native country, you don't really have a case. Besides, it is one of the longest timeline processing to complete.

The child's outland PR would be completed long before the H&C route is done.

whereever you got your information, it is wrong or you misunderstood. as posted above, a child can ONLY be sponsored OUTLAND in the situation you have described.

Rcohen has already posted the link where it's said on the CIC website.

The processing time depends on the VO. Which VO would you be going through?

VO=Visa Office?

Rcohen posted: " a dependant child can only be included on an inland application if they are being added to a spousal sponsorship. otherwise, the only way to sponsor a dependant child is from outside of canada"

So it's opposite then what other said that it can be done ONLY outland..

That is correct. Sponsoring a child for PR has be to done outland only. No choice.
