Hello again all. A quick question

Up until around may of 2010 my wife was recieving social assistance. She has not received it since may of 2010 when she returned to college. My question is a two part question

1) As long as she is not currently on SA she should be able to sponsor me right?

2) As part of SA she was re-evaluated and the office termed it had made a mistake and had over payed her. Does this current overpayment amount need to be repaid in full before she sends in the application? If so would you advise sending in a form with the application from the office stating that A) she is off SA and B) The overpayment was repaid

Yes, she can sponsor you, but because her Option C tax info will show her social assistance, you will have to send in proof she is off it.

I don't know if it has to be repaid before she can sponsor, but I would think it would be a good idea. If she does repay it, she should definitely send in proof she repaid it.

I was on SA as well for 3 months in 2010. My option C showed I received like $500 from them.
However I sent in my letter from my employer stating my bi-weekly salary since March. I hope that was enough!

You want to show that you are not currently in receipt of Social Assistance, and have some means of supporting your spouse. I have seen many cases where the sponsor is approved without having employment or as a student living with parents...but showing that you are making a wage is definitely a plus.

I've been away for a bit so i just was now able to check for responses. Let me make sure i am understanding correctly as I'd hate messing up. Just sent my wife all my paperwork today, so we should be in process officially in a week or two

1) As long as she is not currently on SA that is all they care about? The overpayment won't matter?

As far as current support goes, My wife is in school full time heading toward the end of her first year in the Social Worker program. Right now she isn't working, but at the end of the current time she will be looking for summer work until the next school year anyway. Her living expenses and such come from OSAP, that being said i have no intention of sitting on my hands doing nothing when / If everything goes through. I'm actually even as of right now looking into prospective positions within Canada

Never hurts to plan ahead
