For junior level EIT's (engineer-in-training), it is a sucky situation to be lumped together with professional engineers (P.Eng holders). The median wage is quite difficult to meet for most new grads on PGWP's. Is there any way around this?
Its not that much sucked...I had a discussion with my friend yesterday and I came to know that we should not compare our wage to the wage which is mentioned in our NOC. CIC considers the EIT wage rate and that you can find from APEGS (for sask) and APEGA for Alberta...and that is not too much high as compare to wage against specific NOC like last year average salary of EIT in sask was $55000/anum and that's what I am getting, even employer can not hire you as an Engineer below the average wage rate.

Hope it helps..

CIC considers all EIT & P.Eng. of all levels of expertise of all disciplines the same NOC 2132.

Of course APEG of provinces conduct their salary survey and finds average salary for EIT, but that doesn't apply to CIC/LMIA. As you mentioned, EIT in Sask is about $55k last year, which corresponds to about $26.5/hr for 40 hrs/week. (26.5*40 hrs * 52 wks) CIC's median for 2132 is $38/hr.

That's why EE for most PGWP (and some ICT/IEC) are prohibitively difficult.

Can an EIT argue that they are not yet "engineers" and apply under "technician"?

Going by your 2132 example, I find that the NOC description for "mechanical technicians - 2232" satisfies most, if not all, of mechanical EIT duties. However, the education requirements are obviously lower (only requiring 2-3 year college background), which might raise some flags for the officer. How would this be viewed from an immigration officer's standpoint?

Who else is just sitting around waiting for an ITA?

Do you think it's better to apply for LMIA or PNP or just wait until they lower their minimum score to 400+ points?

I'm at 438 points now, and my work permit is expiring next year..
I do not understand. Your visa will be expired next year? that means you still have positive LIMA and how can you get only 438 points? you already quit your job?

In my knowledge, job duties are more important than anything else. If you've noticed job duties of 2132 are not the same as 2232 (Mech Eng Technologist). For example 2132 doesn't mention use of 3D CAD and Drawings, 2232 does. 2232 involves some practical testings and 2132 doesn't.

So one may work under title of EIT, register as EIT, works under a P.Eng. but involves Design and CAD work more than others (Which is rather common for Junior Mech Eng positions), it's still 2232. Whether CIC officer sees a job description of 2232 with a B.Eng degree and register with APEG a problem. I really don't know.

That just what I think.

People with open work permits works in Canada without LMIA.
