Hello.. I'm in the process of applying in sinp and one of the tabs on the online application says reference letters are needed from employers and I don't have any. Can i just attach t4 and record of employment? And some pay stubs for Saskatchewan employers that I worked for?

Thank you in advance for your help..

Hello,

I my understanding reference is needed to prove your experience. U can easily get it from HR of your employer. T4 might not be enough as reference letter has much more info that SINP interested in.

How your letters of reference are formatted can make a big difference to the success of your file. The letter needs to be formal, and the more information it includes about the company issuing it, the better. Ideally, a letter of reference should:

  • Be written on company letterhead
  • Be signed by the responsible officer/supervisor
  • Have the responsible officer/supervisor’s name and job title printed beneath the signature
  • Include the company’s contact information
  • Be stamped with the company’s official seal (if applicable)
  • If possible, have the business card of the person signing it attached
If your letters of reference don’t have these things, it might be a red flag to the visa officer that the employer issuing the letter is not genuine.
There are also specific things that an ideal letter of reference should include:

  • Your official job title
  • The dates of your employment
  • Your salary per week
  • Your average hours per week
  • A detailed list of your employment duties.
The most important part of your letter of reference is the detailed list of your employment duties. It has to include your daily tasks and responsibilities, and should make up most of the content of the letter. Remember, the visa officer is not necessarily familiar with your industry, so make sure you avoid industry specific abbreviations or terms. Your duties should be listed clearly and concisely.

The list of employment duties is how the visa officer confirms that you’ve chosen an appropriate NOC code. Every NOC code has an associated lead statement and list of duties. It doesn’t matter if your official job title doesn’t match up with a job title associated with your NOC code, as long as your employment duties match the lead statement and duties.

That said, it’s suspicious if your letter of reference matches the NOC description exactly. The visa officer might believe that your letter of reference was created for the purposes of matching the NOC, rather than being an actual record of your work experience. In that case, the letter is considered “self-serving”, fraudulently obtained for immigration purposes, and not eligible for processing.

WHAT IF I CAN’T GET A LETTER OF REFERENCE
A letter of reference is by far the best way to prove your work experience. But if, for a legitimate reason, you’re not able to get a letter of reference, then you can try to convince the visa officer with supplementary documentation. Some examples include:

  • Employment contracts
  • Promotion letters
  • Paystubs
  • Pictures of you at work
  • Sworn declarations from previous colleagues
You should also include a signed letter of explanation describing why you’re not able to provide a letter of reference. At the end of the day though, even if you have a perfect letter of reference, the final decision comes down to the visa officer. Whatever documentation you use, the goal is to put together a complete and thorough record of your employment to convince the visa officer that your work experience is genuine. In general, the more information you include, the more credible it will be to the visa officer, and the better your chances of being accepted.

Hi Anton,

Still no MR... Let us know how your call with CIC went.

Anyone knows if it's worth to try and apply EE at this point?.... I tried to compare EE and my timeline, it might be at the same time i will get PR.. as i will still need to gather the documents needed for EE.. just want to know anyone's opinion, any advice would appreciate it greatly.

Hi Ellained,

Sorry to hear that u did not get MR yet.

So, I called CIC at around 6am SK time. Wait in queue about 20mins. Officer was very nice. He checked everything - "Your documents are all good. Just wait for a bit and you will be getting Passport Request anytime now. You just crossed 16months mark".

Ellained, my suggestion DO NOT CALL THEM unless you pass 16 months. I called them before getting medical request and got yelled - "You will get your medical request letter when it will be produced".

Regarding EE, it will be lots of headache + expenses:

Language test $300
Med exam $300
Application fee $550
Landing fee $490

Again, EE is like green card in USA - u are lucky and they invite you to apply. U have lower score and u sit in pool.

Nobody guarantees that u will get EE in 6 months.

The benefit of EE is that u can get Bridging Open Work Permit (if postgrad work permit expires)

Through PNP, it is way harder, u need to apply for closed work permit (if Postgrad work permit expires) and get letter from province and employer. this is harder.

I suggest to stay with PNP

Telephone: 1-888-242-2100 (in Canada only)
  • Automated telephone service (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week)
If you have a touch-tone telephone, you can listen to pre-recorded information about our programs, and check the status of your application.
  • Client Support Centre agents - Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., your local time, except for statutory holidays. Services are available in French and English.

Sorry to disappoint you but CIC call center officers are known for their inaccuracies. They often give out wrong information causing applicants to be confused. Maybe you should reach out to your local MP or MLA because they have access to CIC that is better than calling CIC yourself.

Hi Wonderland,

First, does the applicant know why they call???? If you call them and say "how long to wait", they will just yell at you and tell you not to waste your or their time. Know why to call? Know when to call? Calling CIC on specific case does not hurt.
It helps if we read :
Agents can help you with general and case specific enquiries. They cannot:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.asp
  • make decisions on applications
  • help process applications faster, unless you meet the criteria for urgent processing

According to CIC, MP or MLA CANNOT DO ANYTHING on your application unless you submit IMM5476E (Use of representative). Good Luck with that assigning this to MLA. Look IMM5476E part 6
Your representative:
(choose one)
is UNCOMPENSATED and is a:
family member or friend
member of a non-governmental or religious organization
member of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC), a Canadian provincial or territorial law society, or the
Chambre des notaires
du Québec
other

Does MLA fall into other?

Well I say if your application is taking more than 16 months like some other applications that have applied under the same PNP which I've seen and still in process for almost 2 years, then yes maybe getting help from MP or MLA will be good. Because once you call CIC yourself, they have will the same response over and over again saying its almost done or you'll be getting PPR soon.

But hey that's what I've seen happened with a colleague of mine so its really upto you or not.

I have a unique question.
Is it mandatory to have post graduate work permit to apply for SINP student category?
Because I graduated from my MSc and immediately enrolled in PhD.
Thanks in advance
