So once my husband lands as a permanent resident, can we go a few days later to the service canada office and ask for his sin and healthcard? Will they let us apply for it or does he have to wait until he gets the pr card in his hands?

We got the SIN number the exact same day as landing (this is with visa-exempt passport).

Health benefits depends on province. You can apply for actual healthcard anytime, but in Ontario at least there is a 3 month wait from landing before benefits kick-in.

Oh ok but my husband is not from a visa exempt country so when can he get the sin?

as soon as he lands he can get his SIN card....go to the nearest Service Canada and apply....he will need to bring his passport and the white sheet as proof of his landing and you will be good to go....

in Ontario for health care we have to wait 3 months for coverage and to be eligible to apply your spouse must have a piece of indentification with his ontario address on it......for example my husband opened his bank account two weeks ago and as soon as his bank statement comes in we can apply of his OHIP card.....even though it won't come into effect until Feb 9/13

I went to service Canada today and got my SIN, I landed Friday had a field trip with my son yesterday or I would have went then. I went on Saturday to Service Ontario and applied for my health card I have a 3 month wait of course but it is done and I don't have to worry about it card should be here before I can actually use it LOL sucks you can't take care of these things at the same office!
