Hey everyone,
I was able to submit my Indian passport surrender application last week (Thursday) and they told me it will take 5-6 weeks to get the surrender certificate and ONLY afterwards can I apply for OCI. They told me to make an OCI appointment for 5 weeks later approximately. Now I went on the BLS appointment page and it shows appointments only toward May end. I don't know if the journey to completely live at peace as a migrant individual will ever end. Anyway, anyone who has obtained Canadian passport and are looking to get OCI soon what is your plan of action ? Any pathways to move forward quickly ?

ps: I was trying to apply for a entry visa and even for it they need the surrender certificate.
I too am curious to know more about this process, looks like there are delays there too,

btw how long do you have to renounce the Indian passport

Hi everyone,
When I check my online tracker it shows updated on January 7,2022 but nothing has changed on my tracker and my last update is on August 23,2021 which my test was completed...should I expect to receive any update soon?
Thanks
Hi all
is this a new thing? is there anyone else experiencing this?

Hi @royce110 , There is no period specified. The CGI Toronto website says:

Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), who have acquired foreign citizenship are required to surrender their Indian passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship.

Note:
Do read the paragraph on using your Indian passport to travel for 3 months from the day of getting the Canadian citizenship in cases where foreign citizenship has been acquired but a foreign passport is not available to the person.

No. My friend took the oath on Dec 14 and got his certificate on Dec 21. i took the oath on Dec 21 and still didn't get it. starting to get worried. how about you?
My situation is the same. I also didn't get my certificate yet. should we contact to CIC , or should wait for another 1 week?
I have already took the appointment for passport application.
Hopefully we'll get it by the end of this week.

DM on Jan 10. Woke up today to a ghost update Jan 14.
Not sure if that means I'll be scheduled for Oath soon or not.

Ghost updates are generally a good sign. You will see an update sooner or later. Good luck!

I dropped an email to them today. Wanna make sure the certificate was not lost during delivery. They literally replied in one minute, saying contacting them again if i haven't received the certificate 6 weeks from 2021...

I hope so. I did a quick search to see what ghost updates can mean after DM and it was a mixed result tbh. Some got an invite for oath the next day, others have been waiting for months

Thanks for the update. I will wait for 6 weeks. Please let me know when you get your certificate.

Anyone knows what is the average wait time between decision made and oath invitation these days?

From what ive seen its very often between 3 days and 3 weeks. Very rarely it goes over two month, especially now since ircc is ramping up ceremonies. But you honestly dont know with them. Im DM since jan 10, funny thing is now im more stress than when i was waiting for the test lol
