You can apply for OHIP before the 3 months then? I thought that you had to go and apply after the 3 months. So if you applied before the 3 moths, are they just going to mail you the card after the 3 months or do you just have to pick it up? I'm very curious. I think 3 months is too long without health care. What happens if you get in an accident or something? Did you buy insurance before leaving for Canada?

hi
as far as i understand you can apply as soon as you can(when you land), but the waiting period is 3months from the date of your landing. also they mail you.....thats from my understanding. :)

Ok. Great. Thank you! It's good to know.

So I emailed the VO to see what the hold
Up is. Apparently I'm in queue for an interview :( and they said they would get back to us with a date and time for it. Definitely not what I wanted to hear :(

Hi neetwo80 and kitty_T,

Yes you can apply before the 3 months. So the moment you get landed your COPR will be stamped and stabled onto your passport. Then you can go and apply for your SIN number at Service Canada (you can get immediately, I still didn't go to do it) and for your OHIP at Service Ontario if you will reside in Ontario. For the OHIP, make sure to take a proof of your address, they are very specific in what they want. You can take an utility bill or bank statement that is mailed to your address. They don't accept printed ones! They told me that the card will be mailed to me in a month or two, but my coverage starts 3 months from the day I got landed.
In the mean time, it's been two years almost now that i'm in Toronto so yes I did purchased a health coverage from back home before I come here. When it expired I purchased one from here. I never had to used it until now, and it's a lot of money, but it's better to have it in case of emergency. This is the one I'm currently using. http://www.safevisit.ca/

Kitty_T, Etobicoke is a nice area for kids to grow up but it's huge. I guess everything here is huge and the only way to get around if you don't have a car is the bus.

Good luck everyone :) Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Yeppers it was fast.. My wife and I were shocked.. They don't normally go that fast but I guess our case was straight forward.. They request the landing fee and update of schedule A on March 28.. We sent both on March 29(Tuesday) and the following Tuesday (April 5) we woke up to the golden email.. God is good.. We wish A speedy processing to all

Well the people who get their COPR fast usually don't hang around to complain about it, which is probably why you see the grim posts more than positive posts. You are much more likely to get yours within the 9 month average, much less if you are lucky. Ours took under 4 months. Don't worry too much, if you don't have a complicated case.

Wow yours took 4 month what embassy was processing your application? Also can you give us tips tank u
