I mailed my package on Sept 28th, my tracking tells me that there was an error and it was routed to Vaughan, Ontario. It showed that it was in Mississauga, but then due to a processing error it went to Vaughan? I am confused and worried. How does this happen?

My FBI report will expire on Oct 9th (3 months) and not sure what will happen.

Does anyone know if they open it right away when it gets to CPC-Mississauga? I guess worse case scenario, they make me do another FBI check. Ugh!!

Omg I hope they re-route this fast, so sorry to hear this, this is not your fault, I hope this will not affect your FBI report and if it does, they will just ask you to do it over again - sometimes we just can't win, hang in there !!!!! I have a good feeling your package will be re-routed soon

Thank you! It says that it is in transit to it's destination and should arrive Oct 2nd. I mailed it from Brantford, Ontario. Mississauga is only an hour away. Not sure the problem, soo frustrating. I will try to stay positive.

Hey, TracyCa64. The CIC actually changed the expiry date for Police Certificates/Back Ground Checks from 3 months to 6 months in May of this year. You should be a-okay once it finally arrives.

I'm sorry that it was sent to the wrong place, but your background check will still be valid once it gets there.

Best of luck!

No problem!

And just so everyone knows:

For the country you currently live in, the police certificate must be issued no more than six months before you apply.

For countries where you have lived for six months or more, the police certificate must be issued after the last time you lived in that country.

So, the police certificate from a place you may have lived for 6+ months (and no longer live there) have no expiration date as long as it was issued after you left.

The police certificate for country where you are currently living is valid for 6 months (up from 3 months).

Just to add you do not need to get a police clearance certificate if the country you are residing in is Canada.

From the guide:

CIC's applicant guide said:
These documents are to be provided for each country other than Canada, in which you have lived for six (6) consecutive months or longer since reaching the age of 18.

Okay, that is confusing. I have been in Canada since April 2014, but I still thought I needed an FBI report. I sent one in with my PR app, the report is dated July 9, 2015. Are you saying that I didn't need it because I have been residing in Canada for over a year?

It was my understanding that an FBI report is for the States, not Canada?

Read the guide, it says you need a PCC for countries other than Canada. The reason being that CIC do their own background checks on you for Canada. If they suspect you have been naughty they will ask you do get a Canadian PCC but you do not need one at the time of applying.

Yes, that is what I thought as well. That is why the other posts were confusing to me. I figured that even though I have been in Canada for over a year, I am still considered a resident of the US and still needed an FBI report. It's all good, just hope the expiry is 6 months, not 3 months.
Thank you everyone for all the info. :)

Hey everyone,

Regarding the police certificates cause everyone seems to get confused. You must submitted police certificates for all the countries you have lived in the last 10 years for more than 6 months. It is noted on the country specific guides.
The only country you don't have to submit a police clearance is if you are currently living in Canada as they will do their checks. But you still have to submit police certificates for all the other countries you have lived in.

Well I hope we did this right , because my husband was deported from Canada (non criminal) after living here for more that 12 years, I was told he will not have to submit a police report for Canada , because CIC will run the check on their own, therefore all we submitted was a police report for the country he's in now . I also called CIC about this and was told ..... It's not required to do so, I hope their telling me the right thing

Thank you Stephcy!! That is written very clearly and makes sense.
I knew that I needed one from the States, but lots of different info out there. My brain feels like mush with all the information I have learned throughout this process. LOL
