Guys this might seem like a silly question but do you need to have a US visa to do the landing. I live in Toronto and my medicals have just been received. I do not have a US visa and I am just trying to plan ahead. Will really appreciate your insights. Thanks

Probably Saturday for me if I get the docs back tomorrow, live close to the border :). My spouse is going on vacation in February so will probably not do it until return.

You can't travel by commercial carrier for 60-70 days after landing (PR Card processing times). Official info here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=064&t=10

Only three people have received PPR from CPP-O:
- Jessica07, 7 days after MR
- ta2, 10 days after MR
- hithere, 10 days after MR

I would wait probably 3 more weeks then request your GCMS notes if you did not hear anything.
Thanks TA2. Congratulations!
How do I know if there will be an interview or not?

When you get your passport request you are instructed to buy 2 Canada Post Xpresspost envelopes. One is to send your passport, the other is to fold up and put inside the first one for the visa office to send back your passport. Before you send it off, you record the tracking number of the envelope. You check once a day after 19:00 EST and eventually you will see the tracking code has been "activated" by Canada Post.
My bad! I knew this - just wasn't sure if this is what 'tracker activated' means. Thanks for clarifying.

They normally let you know in the medical request email itself if you need interview or not. I am assuming if they didn't ask you in that email, you probably don't need it.

Also, Just to create some awareness, let me share the process involved to get PR:

1. It all starts with an ecas update of 'We started processing your application on 'xxxxxxx' '

2. After 7-14 business days, you will receive medical request via email asking for submission of medicals and paying RPRF fees ($490 CAD)
Make sure you find a doctor on time who can do your medicals and submit it quickly.

3. After 3-5 business days of submission of medicals (confirm with the doctor when did he submit your medicals), 4th line will be added ' Medical results have been received'

4. After 5-15 business days, your ecas status will be updated from 'In Process' to 'Decision Made'. This will also add a 4th line 'A decision has been made on your application. The office will contact you concerning this decision' to your application.

5. After 0-7 business days, you will receive passport request via email asking for passport and 2 recent photographs. To avoid any further delay, have your 2 photographs ready to mail it (Canada Post preferably) as soon as possible

6. After 5-25 business days, you will receive passport with stamped VISA and COPR (confirmation of PR) document

P.S. - Please expect some delays due to holiday season in Canada at this point of time.

you can do the landing at peace bridge Ontario...you will not need to enter US if you land at peace bridge as documented below:

I have one question for all of you.
Im FSW2 with arranged employment, and waiting for visa outside Canada a more than one year. My visa office is Vienna. Can i apply for work permit visa on this stage. First my employer must provide LMO, i know that. Is that possible? Is any negative effect on my current FSW application, if I do that?

Your work permit visa may be refused for dual intent. Consult your lawyer.

Just want to share with you guys another terrifying experience with Canada Post. Our return package from CPP-O was marked as "out for delivery" at 09:24 today, then it was marked "Item successfully delivered" at 09:25. However it was definitely not delivered and this is once again a mistake on the Canada Post website. It was actually delivered at approx 13:30 by the regular mail person. What I am guessing happened is at 09:25 it was delivered by Canada Post to some storage locker in the street, then our regular mail person picked it up later.

Please everyone check the box "signature required" on both the Priority/Xpresspost envelopes (send and return) and send to the CPP-O Courier address. This will save you a lot of stress!

Just landed, now officially a permanent resident! ;D ;D ;D

Good luck to everyone else. For me it was only 45 days from "started processing" to completed application. My guess is that everyone who has gone into processing at CPP-O will be permanent residents by April.

I will write up a big post explaining the whole process since despite many hours searching, I did not actually find any really detailed posts like this.

As for my earlier question about spouse landing. The definitive answer (I asked 3 separate Canadian border agents) is that it's fine for your spouse/dependents to land separately from the principal applicant. There are only three restrictions on landing as PR:

1. The principal applicant must land first or at the same time as dependents.
2. You must land before expiry of your CoPR + Immigrant Visa (mine would have expired approx 12 months after "Decision Made" date).
3. You cannot land in Quebec unless you have a Certificat de sélection du Québec.

Congratulations Ta2... glad you made it...

I am still waiting for the third line to appear. Did my medicals on December 4th. Still nothing online. I did call CIC though and they mentioned they received the medical results on December 30th. They haven't updated it yet though... Hopefully something by early next week.
