im missing eastern european food and products. i miss yummy milk, sour cream, cheese etc :D here it tastes very different. im missing cooler weather, cause here in mississauga its horribly hot and humid this summer. i guess thats main things.

I know what you mean when you say it tastes different. Same food but they are made differently. I noticed that (this is going to sounds so dumb) the diet coke syrup tastes different when I am in Canada. Same for things like McDonalds french fries and ice cream. I think that with different health laws and things that some recipes are just a little different and you get used to it a certain way!

Did you know that Mountain Dew has no caffeine in Canada? That was a shocker lol And my favorite cereal is different here too, Cranberry Almond Crunch...I was SO disappointed on that one.

I knew that in the past MD has no caffeine in CDA. I believe it used to be that any clear pops couldnt have caffeine. Interesting to hear that it has changed!

It is based on standards from the food and drug admin but if it is different now that will make my husband very happy.. no one believes me when I tell them Mountain Dew had no caffeine.

weirdness.

I miss the Olive Garden like there is no tomorrow!

I used to go there often after Toronto Symphony concerts. According to Toronto Life magazine, all the Toronto locations closed because there are too many real Italians in Toronto serving real Italian food. The short article is worth reading if you're in the Toronto area.

I knew Mountain Dew didn't have caffeine in Canada (except the "energy" version). Will definately look up that change.

Smarties are also different up here. What we know as Rockets (those little hard/dry candies from halloween) are smarties in the US. :P

Not so much going to miss it, but it is something that will be different.
Right now the stores for our city are mainly on the highway. You get off and take a frontage road.
In our destination city, the highway isn't really meant for that - you go into the city and then stores are thru it.

It'll be odd to not go over the highway to get to the store or navigate frontage roads and the highway to get places.

Some of my favorite TV Shows!!

I am wondering what channels are gotten up there. I remember my husbands mom getting hooked on shows when she was here a month when I had our twins, and she got home and couldn't get them anymore.

for tv shows, try this:

http://tvlistings.zap2it.com

you can set it up by provider and Postal Code and that will give you some idea of what would be available to watch.

Thanks! So if I put in the postal code, picked a provider and type in the name of the show.
It's bringing the show up/recognizing the show but has nothing airing in the next 2 weeks.

The two stations I was thinking of were FX and USA off the top of my head.

If nothing comes up it would be because it's not going to be available, unfortunately. Try it with something common that you know is on regularly and would be available, like Oprah, to see if it is otherwise working. Also, you can use that same link to set it up for your US location.

Bummer!

At least Dexter is showing up.

In order to protect the Canadian production industry, Canadian TV and radio channels must broadcast a minimum amount of Canadian content, as specified by each license, so that means that you will not be getting American networks in Canada, aside from ABC/NBC/PBS/Fox.

Rights to shows are sold to Canadian stations one by one. For example, Nip/Tuck from FX is broadcast in Canada on CTV and NCIS from USA Network is broadcast on the Global TV network, etc. Not every show from the U.S. is available, but almost all of the more popular ones are.
