Restoration of status - worker

Hey everyone,
I applied to extend my PGWP (paper application) and they rejected it because i didn't pay the new open permit fee of $100.
Because it took so long for them to process it (and reject!) I lost my status and now have applied for restoration.

The call centre agent told me I cannot work, volunteer or do any courses. Basically I just have to wait. I just wanted to hear from any of you, what did you do while waiting to restore your status. I thought I'd be able to occupy my time volunteering, but it seems like not even that is allowed? What the?

Oh and she told me it would probably take around 4 months. Any suggestions??? :-[

You can volunteer - but only in a position that people aren't normally paid to do. For example, you could volunteer to help with a church bake sale.

You cannot volunteer in a position someone would typically be paid do to. For example, you cannot work for free as an intern in a company. This would be classified as working illegally.
