Good Day all,

I sent my app, and they told me that it was incomplete, they say I didnot sent:

Proof of Relationship to Sponsor:
o Residential Documents two (2) of the following three (3) sets of
options:
 Minimum one (1) joint residential document.
 Minimum one (1) joint utilities document (electricity, gas,
telephone).
 Important documents for you and your sponsor showing
the same address, such as copies of Government issued
identification documents (driver's licenses, insurance
policies, etc).

This is so FK top, because:

1) I live for 5 years with my wife overseas in a property owned by my father. And all bills were in his name.

2) On top of that, unlike north american standards in the country where I leave is uncommon to have 2 names in a damn bill. And much less mail you a bill.

3) National ID and drivers license do not have address in the country were we live.

But we have two kids together and married for 8 years... So what people in my case suppose to do???

It is just so Fk top.

Is your application inland or outland? And your application was returned, not denied...calm down.

Attach a letter with a detailed explanation why you do not have the documents they are requesting. If possible, have your father prepare a written statement/letter to support this claim and that the house you shared with your wife belonged to him, etc.

Did you have a joint bank account? Or anything else that could possibly show you have the same address (pay stubs when you lived together, phone bills)?

1. Submit a notarized letter from your father confirming you both live there.

3. IDs are just one example. You can use pretty much anything showing you have the same address. You must things like have bank statements, credit card statements, paylips, tax documents etc.

I'm probably going to find myself in a similar situation. I live in Japan and planning to move to Canada with my wife and two kids. Basically, Japan doesn't have joint anything. The bills are all in my name and I'm the main person on the rent. What I'm planning to send in photocopies of my resident card and her driver's license which both have our current address listed along with an official residency certificate from the city hall with both of our names listed as being at the same address. Both of these things (and pretty much anything else I can provide) will be from the 3rd category with nothing from the first or second category. Will that be seen as sufficient, so long as I sent a note explaining the situation?

Hi all,

Thanks all for your answers. My application is outland - we both are outland - I included pictures, letter from her and my M.D, and bank statements from both, and the birth certificates from out kids where ironically it has our written address... but i guess the only think we didnt send in was a letter saying: why we did NOT send in "joint residencial proof" joint utilities, who the fk has joint utility bills these days. We both work and we even have seperated accounts for years, up to today...

BTW, they did not returned the app. They just send a letter requiring those documents or a letter why we couldn't provide with them in 45 days. Otherwise it would be returned.

I guess i am going to send the property documents and bills with my dad's name and a letter from him and a letter and our bank accounts, and all other proofs which they are not "joint".

If any one had a similar experience and all went fine, please share.

Sorry for the coarsing, I just find this proces too "square'.

It's not even Anglocentric, it's just outright bizarre. I'm a U.S. citizen and my husband and I never lived together before applying, so there was no reason we would have had any of those things. It's like whoever came up with the requirements for the new forms had a specific image of what a couple applying should be, and couldn't imagine any deviation from that. If you're even remotely outside of "mainstream" in terms of your lifestyle so many of the things on that checklist aren't easy to acquire. Or, they would be acquired for the specific purpose of applying - which at that point, somewhat defeats the purpose of proving that your relationship is genuine.

When I got my GCMS notes, even though I had none of the "joint" things the new kit asks for the officer who handled our file had no concerns that our relationship was not genuine. We applied with the old kit, but you'd think if they were that important that that's the sort of thing they would have been evaluating for prior to the new kit as well. My husband and I would have been freaking out if we'd have needed to provide the proof they want now.

Relax Tony the tiger, rules are rules, and you must comply with them.
You have 45 days, that is more than enough time to get your act together and submit the required documents, and not be so sloppy in sending documents next time.
Good luck

First of all I want to apologize for the tone and language of my posts. I am calmer now.

I just meant with "Anglocentric" that this are common documents in North America in general. obviously that in other places in the world these kind of documents are rare if no impossible to find. Let's say that you live in Africa and there is not even electrical or water services... Or much less a lease or even property deeds. Heck, even in South and Central America there are places like that.

That takes me to the point that I think when they designed these procedures, this one and the other precious ones, they designed for couples apart or kinda "long distance." They never did designed and specific one for those who both live together abroad.

Again my apologies, and those kind messages. I just needed to vent a bit.

Cheers to all.

I understand your frustration very well. Just try your best to get a document that shows your address for both you and your wife. Even if you both bank at different places, see if they will print something that shows your address. Also, make sure the letter from your father is notarized.
