residency obligations how to count days!

Hello I have a pr card since May 10,2019 bur due to a family situation I had to leave and com back and lost count of days ! but Im sure that spent outside of Canada more than inside
However, I lived in Canada as an international student and PGWP since August 2009 to December 2018 and then as Visitor until I got my Card
my question is dose the time between 2009 and 2018 count im anyway towards residency obligations??

For the PR residency obligation, only time spent in Canada after you became a PR counts. The time from 2009 to 2018 when you had temporary status does not. You must make sure you live in Canada for at least 730 days out of every 5 rolling years. It's your responsibility to keep track to make sure you meet this minimum requirement.

If you had to guess (which I guess you will), have you been in Canada for at least 730 at any time from today (counting backwards) to May 10, 2019? If not, how close do you think you are? When was your most recent entry back into Canada?

You can order your CBSA Travel History (ask for exit and entry records) by submitting an ATIP request, here:

Since it would appear that your current card is still valid (until May 2024?), you should wait until you know you've satisfied the R.O. to apply for renewal.

Hi all, I'm a Fulbrightee (got my Ph.D. in the US and worked for a year afterward) and I just returned home to begin my 2-year home residency requirement. I'd like to consult other people who have been in a similar situation: how strict is the calculation of the days? Is it really 730 days, or will they accept one year and 10/11 months day counter between dates? I plan to apply for jobs in the US already during my second year of residency: is that allowed? Thanks!

It is quite strict, you need to have the number of days. Most recommend having some buffer above the 730 days, because applying before can delay processing of replacement PR card considerably. Different opinions on buffer needed, my suggestion is 30 days over the 730 is a reasonable balance between a healthy buffer and not waiting too much (marginal benefit of buffer days after that not likely meaningful).
