It's just proposal, which yet to approve

They cannot make this clause.. Its hard... next goverment will roll it back

Guys.. on the site they say "proposed Act" does that in anyway mean it might never be applied? And that still the parliment has to agree on these huge changes from a government that will soon expire and leave power?? Any ideas??

you got it.

Guys,

Just to add to the topic, there is an online tool called 'Residence calculator' on the CIC citizenship page where you can enter your info and see if you're eligible to apply for citizenship, and if not when you will become eligible. I've been in Canada since 2008, planning to land today ( so today is the date I become PR). I entered that data and my result was I will meet the basic requirement on Feb 6th 2016, that is in two years! But that is of course based on the current rules.

I remember there was a clause earlier that if you are working out from country but working for a Canadian company and your salary deposits in Canadian salary account then that time is also considered for the Citizenship.

Please clarify on this ?

[off-topic] That, or living with a Canadian citizen abroad, if I remember correctly. Well, to retain your PR status, that is.

I agree Guys , It’s just a proposal
I am just trying to understand the proposal itself.

I just need to understand the concept of 183 days while applying for Citizenship , How this will come into the picture......

I am just looking for an intelligent answers who can tell me - What’s is the significance of 183 days.

Thanks

It's very straight forward - not sure what's confusing you.

When you apply for citizenship, during four out of the last six years, you must have spent at least 183 days in Canada during each of those four year.

so you mean to say that if someone has stayed for 183 days atleast each year for 4 years in last 6 yrs .
He can apply for Citizenship ?

Are we done explaining this very simple rule?

In addition have stayed a total of 1460 days in last 6 years.

Hopefully this new change will not get approved, I am counting on the reasonable people who are there..

Anyone hoping that a new Liberal government will somehow open the immigration floodgates can keep dreaming :)

Although the increased wait for citizenship is a shame, I don't see anything particularly outrageous about requiring sincere citizenship applicants to have spent a reasonable amount of time in the country they want to call home.

Yes, as I understand it, you need two things: 1460 days AND 183 days within Canada for 4/6 years.

For example:

I stay in Canada for two years, leave for one year, come back and stay in Canada for two more years. 1460 days, and for four of my five years, I was in Canada for more than 183 days. I am eligible to apply for citizenship.

I stay in Canada for three years (1095 days) and then for the next three years I stay in Canada for 5 months each year (450 days [5 X 30 X 3): total days, 1545. However, I'm ineligible to apply for citizenship, because I was only within Canada for more than 6 months during 3/6 of my years.

Let me apologize in advance if I've gotten it wrong, and this post contributes to the confusion. Sorry!

We are not dreaming, but for those who do not know, freedom of movement is one of human rights, many people here run to Florida for winter, what is wrong if you are generating too much money in 6 months and want to travel move and enjoy the other 6 months...??

Then you are free to do so as a PR, and your rights are not abridged . . .

Sorry, it's just a bit of a joke. I agree with you it's frustrating -- but the fact is, Canadian citizenship is one of the easiest in the world to qualify for, possibly the easiest outside of those countries that sell citizenship. A Canadian PR is far less restricted than an American green card holder.

No - this doesn't mean he can apply for citizenship. He must meet the 1460 residency requirement AND the 183 day requirement.
