What if you don't meet the requirements and your PR card is about to expire? Can you easily extend it?
Of course, but if you plan to be overseas for long periods of time, consider whether you are spending enough time in Canada to maintain permanent resident status (two years out of the last five).

Completely agree with you. The rules have been changing over the years. They may change again within 2 years.

Guys need some clarification on this -

•Requires physical presence for four years (1,460 days) out of the six years;
•183 days minimum of physical presence per year in four out of six years;

Does it mean that if I live for 183 minimum for each year and rest of time work overseas ,
Work overseas means , Working for a Canadian company and Company sent you out for work assignments . I will still get my salary in Canadian account and my T4 will be consistent.

Will I will be still eligible for Citizenship in just 4 years ?

I remember there was a clause earlier that if you are working out from country but working for a Canadian company and your salary deposits in Canadian salary account then that time is also considered for the Citizenship.

Please clarify on this ?

No. It's as easy as counting days. Minimum requirement is a total of 1460 days in the past 2190 days.
If you're out of the country, you will have to make up for the time spent abroad.

That may satisfy the conditions for permanent residence, but not citizenship (anymore).

Physical presence means your literal body, literally within the boundaries of Canada.

No, this is part of the requirements to APPLY for citizenship. Citizenship is normally retained automatically.

You're confusing PR and citizenship residency requirements. What you've said above can be counted as residency towards maintaining your PR status only. This was never counted as residency for citizenship purposes - not even before the rules changed.

Right, there's also mention of adding an "intent to reside" clause which sounds like a nebulous way to catch out people who do the bare minimum.

Thanks guys... Just one more last thing, I am confused on this only.

In which context the below line is used ?

- 183 days minimum of physical presence per year in four out of six years

To Maintain Citizenship - it means even after having citizenship you need to be in Canada for 183 per year....? Will this also impact current Citizenship holders ? ( Seems Hard to believe)

Or To Apply for Citizenship - If 183 days is a clause made to apply for citizenship , How this will work ? what is the significance ? how this will come into the picture ?

Thanks
