I know it hurts to be denied, but maybe you were denied because you have a child and you do need to have a certain level of income to be able to sponsor once you have children (the money is not for your husband, but it's for your child). May I ask what is your husband's and your educational background?

How do they expect me to have an income for my child when no one hired me because I can't work weekends because I have a child in daycare? It doesn't really make any sense. Most jobs need full availability but there's no daycare for children on weekends.

My husband doesn't have much education. He only complete d eighth grade before he was forced to leave school because of the war in Iraq and the life his family was living.

I have finished high school and am in second year university now in Iraq. I started university in Iraq after my husband's refusal and I am planning to finish and then come back to Canada, take a five month medical office assistant course there and work.

It doesn't hurt that we were denied. The irony of the situation hurts. We are looking for a place to build a better life for ourselves and our son but they refuse us because we don't have a good enough life right now.

There are a lot of jobs that are just strictly Mon-Fri, where did you go look for jobs? (online job banks, kijiji). Have you considered moving to another city with better employment prospects such as Edmonton? Also you didn't answer my last post regarding this, but have you also tried broadening the scope of jobs you want to do? There are lots of jobs that might not be the most glamorous, but they pay a decent wage.

It's hard for me to imagine that every single job you've found, all of them want you to work on weekends.

Also, before you decide to go to school, have you researched whether or not a medical office assistant diploma will give you good job prospects? For me I'm not sure if it will or not, but I personally know a lot of friends who make the mistake of taking in more education in an economic downturn, and I think that's a bad idea because you're likely won't be working for the duration of the schooling, plus you will have student loans that need to be paid off, and your return on investment will largely depend on whether or not you're able to get that job or not, and it might be hard to get a job in a specific type of field , especially if it's in a recession and not a job that's in high demand.

Did you go to school in Iraq just because you wanted something to do while you're near your husband? Or is it to really genuinely improve your job skills?

I looked everywhere for jobs, websites, advertisements, I even went to places and gave my resume all the time. And I honestly would have worked anything, even now. I wasn't picky with what I wanted to work, I looked for anything. But all the places that called me wanted weekends. That was my only issue. At that time in that position do you really think I would have cared about anything except having a proper job with a good enough income? It was an extreme struggle.

I did a bit of research on medical office assistant but I'm still working on it. Like I said that's three years from now when I'm done university in Iraq. It has always been my plan to finish university whether in Iraq or Canada even before I was married but it was put off because of my sponsorship for my husband. We wanted to know where we would end up before starting anything. After the refusal I started university in Iraq. I did because I wanted the education here just in case we don't end up in Canada, at least I'll be able to work here in Iraq.
