Guys good news is that I got a job offer today

It is in my field, same designation where i left in India. This is a permanent job
Today is 6th working day after I landed

I also had another interview today in my field, same designation, again permanent job
I have another one on Monday, this is a contract job but same field and same designation.

This may not be average time to find jobs in Canada but as I have been saying since I landed that IT job market is good and if u have good communication and soft skills and prepare for interview well, it is not hard to find job

Wow! This is really awesome!! Congratulations, ankit!! You have done really great! Hats off to you!! Please guide us as we follow you. Your successful job-search experience will help us too. Would you please let us know about the technologies you work in?

I agree with your point that IT skills are portable from one country to another. My experience is that when I moved to UK I found that the UK market is mostly around financial services. The financial sector here mainly relies upon open source software rather than costly QA tools like QTP, LoadRunner etc. So I would say each market may differ in such aspects - like which domain may be prominent and is likely to have more jobs. Fortunately Canada seems to have good prospects for financial services.

Good luck as you settle in the new job!

Regards,
amay

Hi, Welcome to Canada.
Its gr8 to hear that u got Job so searly. Congratulations. btw what is your field in IT.
How u got JOb Offers. Through some Recruiter or direct. I am in QA and still looking for Jobs.
Please guide how u did all this.
Regards

Hi Meena

The job that I got is direct w/o a recruiter and this is a IT project management job for software development projects

Few Things that I did was that while in India I applied to selected suitable job with right resume. I had a Canadian address and Canadian Phone no. on my resume and I would tell the employer of my availability date in Canada over phone
Prepared for interview as advised by explorer on this forum. I give lot of credit to him for my success.
Finally luck was on my side. It is God' Blessings

Key is search internet really well, apply to selected job, prepare well and pray hard

thanks ankit
can u pls find java j2ee job market ?

Since I do not look for jobs in this area I will not be able to comment on the market space. As I suggested, to find the market prospects, goto various websites that I mentioned. If you need any specific help please let me know

Hi ANkit,
Thanks alot for replying. I understand the same and I am also trying my best to do the same. I would also see 'Explorer' comments in Job searching .
Also if you can guide me that how you applied to different Employers. As I am doing that by going to their Websites and calling them as well, but nothing happens yet.
How you contact directly to Employers???
Is there any specifi site cwhich can help me more, please do guyide me.

Tahnks
Meena

Hi,
Wow I wud say I am almost on all the sites except Hays, Pro count. I wud go on them too. Though I met with Recruiter in Saphire in Rohert Half too.Lets c when they wud arrange interview for me.I am going to their websites and searching for Jobs and on finding any best match I am contacting them again. But I wud say its a matter of luck too.
But I am really happy 4 u and its a story of inspiration for all of us.
I wud like to ask u 1 thing. Do u directly call these companies after looking at any Job or u call any specefic Recruiter there. I might be missing something. I wud really appreciate if u can just give me some tips on that.
Though u helped me lot. I have emailed to 'Exploreer' too.
Thanks
Meena

Finally Reached Toronto on 5th May 2011. Took the long route through Hong Kong using Cathay Pacific Airlines. I travelled alone without my family and plan to get them here after suitable accommodation etc is arranged.

Arrived at Pearson International airport at 1 PM. There was not much of crowd at the airport. First went though preliminary immigration (Customs) and then was directed to immigration counter. For this stage you need to fill in the custom form which is given in the flight. Form has details like name, address, DoB, flight no. and declarations regarding what u r bringing into Canada.

At immigration counter the COPR was checked and I was asked about total funds that I was carrying including the one that I already transferred to Canada via Scotia bank. I told the officer and offered to show get the proof and she said it is ok and did not see the proof. She verified COPR details from Passport took my Canada address and stapled the copy of COPR to m passport and welcomed me to Canada. I was directed to the welcome area for new immigrants. There two kind ladies greeted me with the smile gave me a bag and bunch of material and was asked to collect the baggage and move to customs for checking. I was also told this is the place where I should declare good to follow list. To help you with the luggage there are porters. You can politely decline their services and use trolleys if you choose to do so. You need 2 CAD for trolleys. CAD 1, 2 and 5 denominations are accepted for trolleys.

At customs I shared the B4, xls sheet backing B4 and photos. This is same as published on forum many times. The officer was impressed and said her job was done by me already. She called other officer and showed him the paper work and asked him to give me form 15 and stamped copy of B4A. She did not check my baggage at all. Rest all guys around me were asked to open the baggage and get it checked. So there I was out of immigration and at the arrival lobby of the Airport.

Here I needed to make some local phone calls. Calls cost you 50 cents and if you do not have 50 cents, you do not get the change back. I wasted a dollar because of that 

I did my advance booking in safe home stay along with the airport pick up, so got the pickup and reached the guest house. Was feeling little low to be alone in new country. It is a challenge to land without any job, it sure is and it tells on mind. I pepped myself up, went to nearby mall had my lunch cum dinner and bought a chat-r phone connection for CAD 56 (10 for SIM Card+35 for plan+ takes) it gives me unlimited incoming and outgoing across Canada for a month w/o contract and now am writing this.

Next steps – Get some sleep, apply for the SIN, get the Bank account activated and start the job search........

Hi Ankit,

I have read all your experience after landing there...

Congrates to you ....
You have described it wonderfully. I was imaging my self with your experience..
It was very nice..

All the best for future...
