Hi All,
I need little help here. I have a total of 6 years of work experience, but my previous employer is not willing to give any reference letter. I will get everything from my current employer. But I have been working in my current organisation from the last 2 years. So that leaves me only with 2 years of experience out of 6. And if I enter into the pool with only 2 years it drops my CRS to 415. I am OK with that. But my concern is about the 4 years long gap. I am not claiming any points for those 4 years though. What should I say about that in my application and will that be any problem.
I also have a similar case, one of my previous employers was reluctant to give me a reference, they only gave me a letter stating my position, salary and the period when I worked, without any information on the actual duties and job responsibilities. But I categorized that job with a different NOC Code, so it won't add any points to me anyways, it's just there to leave no gaps. Maybe you can do the same. You can also prove you worked somewhere with bank statements, tax returns and other data and just write an LOE that your employer refused to give you a letter. Also ask your employer to write you an official letter, saying that he will not give you this letter. If you attach all of that it might work out. Good luck!

Yes its the only part of US, i almost died of boredom.
Somehow life keeps bringing me to that part of the world every 4-5 years, i spent some time in Rochester (konica minolta) and then again a month in Seneca falls,( Gould pumps)

Something is there for me , to be discovered , may be my previous life's treasure chest. :)

When I worked in Buffalo, New York, a town in western upstate New York that is pretty close to the Canadian border near Niagara Falls, we had a Canadian IT guy who lived in Canada and crossed the border every day to come to work. That's the only case I have personally seen.

I spent some time in Rochester as well. My time in western upstate New York was depressing and told me that I don't handle small towns well and must live in a big city, so I moved to NYC. I thought I would settle down here, but now Canada is calling. That's why I'm targeting Toronto. Somehow life keeps me on the move. I had lived in a few different parts of the US before then.

Do you know anything about life in Alberta? My family and me are planning to settle in Calgary and I heard that there is a economic crisis out there due to oil prices. What's your point of view?
Yes Calgary and many parts of Alberta were the growth engine for Canada for many years as oil prices were increasing and especially above $100/barrel. The salaries were very high even without skills and many adults worked and the returned home to their families in other areas of the country monthly. Many people relocated to Alberta but have often returned to ON/BC when they were laid off. The real estate prices also went up dramatically due to demand. The oil prices have been low for 3-4 years so the layoffs and readjustment to a new normal has happened and the economy is no longer in decline and has started showing slightly positive signs. Alberta in general has a younger population and is still catching up in term of major infrastructure like schools/hospitals. There are less sales taxes than other provinces although they may have add a provincial sales tax at some point. Real estate is more affordable and there is plenty of availability at the moment. Calgary is very safe and is still relatively small at just over a million people. If you like the outdoors and sporting activities it is ideal. The big issue is what kind of employment are you looking for?

It's happy and wonderful day, hope there is draw today in about 7-8 hours. Hope we will have 3 draws in a row which could be 2nd time in EE history. So, as always I'm staying positive and hope for a miracle: CRS 425(+-2) with 3000+ ITAs ;):)

PS: I know this time I won't be in, but I will be so happy for my friends in this ROH and some other time that special day will knock our doors for those who sit at 400-420 ;) Always hope for the best!

If the current breakup of the pool doesn't change too dramatically, wouldn't you say that the cut-off score should drop to the 420s at least?

Mm you might be able to find a comparable paying job in Toronto. I really only know about London in the UK because that's where I was job hunting and have a few friends (who also make a lot of money but have very stressful and demanding jobs), so you can make your calculations from that reference point. I actually was chatting with one of them after the most recent terrorist attack in London, and he was saying he was considering moving away. So I said hey, maybe you could join me in Canada! Immediately he said "the pay is shit." So obviously he wasn't serious, but I thought it was hilarious how he talked about moving away but was so quick to comment on the low pay. Of course there are many sacrifices we all have to make when we immigrate to a new country, and to many people, it's not worth it.

Also, I think there are real estate deals to be found in Canada. You just have to do your homework and treat house hunting as a job. One reason real estate prices have been so high in the bigger cities like Toronto and Vancouver is because a lot of Chinese investors bought a lot of property in prior years, until the federal government got rid of the investor class stream of immigration in late 2014 or early 2015. Prices are softening now. I need to do a lot more research closer to my move date, but I think there are deals to be found, just as there are over here in New York. Real estate is notoriously expensive here, but I have found affordable deals here.
In Canada you can purchase real estate without any form of residency. Don't get me started. Not sure if I would say deals but at least prices have stabilized or slightly gone down in Toronto after a spring market where many buyers lost their minds and we have had very strong returns for many years. In the greater Toronto and greater Vancouver areas there are many empty properties like in China. The government should have stepped in earlier to protect citizens but for various reasons they didn't.

Am I totally wrong to think that we in the 420's shouldn't be too hopeful if there's a draw today because many new profiles with really high scores have been added recently as a result of the latest IELTS results? I just want an ITA!:(
