Not quite correct. If you wish you don't have to have your Place of Birth on your passport. Place of birth
The place of birth must be provided on the application form. If you do not wish the place of birth to appear in the passport, submit form PPTC 077, Request for a Canadian passport without a place of birth, available online at passportcanada.gc.ca.

Person born in Israel for example may find it more convenient not to have the Place of Birth, as birth in Israel can be a refusal for some country.

Yes, but it may lead to more questions at the border. Border officers are not stupid and will notice that. And, I think, some countries require a place birth in passport, otherwise passport won't be deemed valid or there will be even more problems while trying to cross border.

Well if you were born in any arab country, try to go to Israel with a Canadian passport, chances are that you will spend the worse 12 hours of your life before being shipped back to Canada... I know two persons who had to go through this...

And it is true, with the word "israel" in your passport, you will never enter lebanon or syria...

The 'option' not to have place of birth is in practice not going to stop immigration in your destination country finding out where you were born. Some places sweat it others don't. If they ask you where were you born then game over in that sense. All it does is provide a sense of secrecy, protection or whatever personal reason there is to go with the option.

I was discussing this topic with my friend (who is a Canadian Citizen) and he insisted the passport will show the country I am from originally. I wasn't born in my home country and having the place of birth on the passport could give me problems like someone said here (for example going to Israel).

Canadian passport doesn't guarantee entry anywhere except Canada even you may not need a visa.

Potentially, naturalized Canadian will have more questions at border crossings than someone born in Canada, it can be seen from a passport.

There may be some aggravating circumstances, like being born in certain countries or not living in Canada, but traveling on Canadian passport.

In any case you're asked about reason and duration of travel, and if they're legit, there shouldn't be any problems entering.

In some cases there may be additional questioning and security checks, but these in the most cases are formal procedures (unless they have something on file on you personally).

PRs and citizenship applicants can visit wherever they want as long as they maintain their PR residence obligation (2 years out of every 5 years).

The only exception is if the applicant was a refugee. If the applicant returns to their home country, they are at risk for cessation/vacation of their refugee status due to "re-availment" of the protection of the country they sought refuge from (i.e. using the home country's passport). This results in revocation of PR status which means any pending citizenship application will be abandoned or denied. This is very important and not something to be messed around with due to the huge risk to former refugees and their families.

Recent ATIP documents reveal the CBSA has set a quota for the number of cessation proceedings: "According to an operational bulletin obtained by Vancouver immigration lawyer and policy analyst Richard Kurland through access to information legislation, the CBSA identified the “cessation and vacation of refugee status” as one of “five enforcement and intelligence priorities” for 2013-14.

As such, it plans to refer a “minimum” of 875 cases a year to the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) tasked with adjudicating such cases. If Israel does not like arab country so much, can they just tell by looking at you?! So hiding where you were born does not do the tricks. Last time I checked, people don't change their appearance/skin once they get Canadian passports, or am I missing something here.

There are many Israeli citizens of arab decent. Actually they are from a variety of backgrounds. There are African jews in Israel.
