Dear Amikety,

Does CIC ask for divorce documents for the first marriage? I remarried 17 months after my divorce. The problem is I just have an affidavit on a stamp paper to prove that I was divorced and nothing else. I don't even know where it is kept now. Being a muslim didn't get divorced in the court. I am filling in my application for permanent residency after receiving an ita. What documents will be required in this case. I am selecting yes in the previous marriage section as I do not want to misrepresent any information to the CIC.

Please help. Really tensed after seeing the previous marriage section in the permanent residency section.

AK
yes they will require proof of all divorce's. Normally court documents are the only acceptable proof. I know that phillipino residents face challenges as divorce is not recognized so perhaps reading their thread might help. If you have already sent in your application keep looking for better answers as you may be asked for better proof.

I have a similar issue, whereby I am a Canadian, divorced (in Canada) from my first (Canadian) husband in 1988. I remarried in 2015 to a USA citizen that I am now sponsoring.

As the sponsor, I was asked to provide "divorce certificate(s), application(s) for divorce, and divorce order(s)" from my prior marriage, but I had never previously been supplied any of this information from the courts/lawyers.

I attended the Supreme Court where my divorce had been finalized, and obtained a Certificate of Divorce for $40. As far as all the other documents (eg. 'application for divorce' and 'divorce order'), I have no idea what those are, and the courts have told me I have to request this from the Royal Museum (at a cost) if I HOPE to (potentially) locate documents other than a "Certificate of Divorce".

My question is, is a court issued "Certificate of Divorce" sufficient for their purposes, i.e. to establish that I am legally divorced, or will I have to pay to have them dig through the archives to find the "divorce order" and "application for divorce" too?

Thank you.
hi how long does it take to get a certificate of divorce in canada? will you get the same day you ordered and paid for it? its the last document that we need before we submit our application. thank you in advance.

Hi

I am in the process of filling my ITA from IRCC through PNP. I have the same query on filling my E-Apr

1. Me and my wife both had divorce from our earlier marriage. The issue is we both have divorce form from our community priest (Muslim) and do not have any other legal document of our divorce except for a community divorce form and a English translation (by a certified translator) of it

a) Will IRCC accept such a document of our divorce as there is no other document we can provide?

b) My ex-wife name is not mentioned in my passport or any other document. Can I avoid mentioning that I was divorced as I have lost (misplaced) my community divorce form and will not be able to get a duplicate copy of it

Appreciate your prompt response.

Thank You
