Hi All,
I am new to this forum. Like a lot of you i am Indian citizen living in the US.
When we get ITA, for the Police verification, just the PCC from the Indian consulate is enough right? No need for the the FBI route right?
Please correct me if i am wrong.
Also, has anyone recently obtained PCC from Indian consulate San Francisco? How long does it take.
Truly appreciate your response.
Thanks and Regards,
Divya Naveenan
Technically, you need a PCC from every country where you have lived for more than 6 months in the past 10 yrs. If you have not yet been in the US for more than 6 months, and you know for sure that you would not be in the US for more than six months, then I would suggest the best course may be to not apply for PR while in the US.
But if you have been in the US for more than 6 months, then a US FBI PCC will be required.
ADD: This also means that if there is any other country, where you have spent more than 6 months, you would need to find out how to get the PCC for that country as well.
ADD2: The 6 month rule for PCC has also gone some modifications recently. I believe, earlier it used to be that the 6 months need not have been continuous, instead counted cumulatively, i.e. if you were in Japan one month every year for the past 10 years, then cumulatively you had spent 10 months in Japan and thus need a Japan PCC. However, the recent updates to the process have something about the 6 months needing to be continuous. I am not 100% certain what those changes are, would look to other members in the forum to be more precise on this.
ADD3: Another recent change (also good news) is that FBI PCC request can now be submitted electronically and do not take a long time. I have not gone through the electronic process so can't say based on personal experience. (Earlier, PCC requests had to be mailed in and took 3-4 months to come back).
