Hi Luc22,
Firstly, let me congratulate you on your landing! A long journey has come to an end
I was wondering if you could share your experience of your PR landing at the US border? I do not have a US tourist visa at the moment however I am glad to hear that the admin rejection is no issue for future visa applications.
Also, did you drive or take the bus to the border? I am quite anxious as I need to do my landing soon - any advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks rjml123
Landing Location: Lacolle
date and time : Tuesday 1st of March at 4 pm
number of persons: 2 adults + 2 kids
Mode of transport to Lacolle: own car 45 minutes from downtown Montreal
Visa to US: NO
Tme taken: total at the border 40 minutes -- 20 minutes at the US side and 20 minutes for the landing ..
Overall : easy , quick
recommendation: to avoid going during week ends and holidays , Mid week (afternoon timing) is advisable.
drove straight to US border , agent asked for our passports , we explained that we don't have visas to US and we need to re-enter to Canada for Immigration landing. He showed us where to park and to go to the Immigration inspection building and wait there. I have been asked inside to fill a form and the agent asked me few questions: since when we live in Canada , if i visited US before (yes) when ? why ? and we waited another 10 minutes to have our passports back along with a paper (administration rejection) which is the only proof for Canadian immigration that we exited Canada , drove back (apx 200 mtrs) towards Canadian immigration showed the passports and we told the agent we are doing the landing , we went to the building on the left , counter B and a nice agent checked our documents , asked us to sign the 2 copies of the CoPR (one for us and one for Immigration) , he asked about the amount of money we have for family of 4 , we replied but did not check any proof.. asked if any personal belongings to be shipped to Canada , we said no ( already shipped to Canada our belongings in a container back in 2011 ) .. he explained our rights as PR and told us to wait 6 to 8 weeks to get the PR cards ,,, congratulated us and drove back to Montreal
Good luck to all
