LOL.

who is providing you with all these wrong info about Ontario?
From where did you get the 300$/month car insurance?
I'm an Ontario resident and I'm paying 80$/month for the car insurance which decreases every year.
as for taxes, you'll get used to it, give it time.
The highest taxes are paid by people residing in Quebec and working in Ontario.

my friend has Honda 2011 and paying 290/month :D

Thats what cultural shock means.. different way of living. (Not talking about race and *censored word* like that).

Anyway alot of people cant do the move, not only lemans. A friend of my husband lasted 2 years but he didnt like it so he came back. as yo said its all about priorities, and goals..

GOOD luck to Lemans and i hope he will be happy with any decision he makes.. at the end we are all looking for that might be in canada, usa, Europe, even Beirut.

Cheers to all and have a nice day.

Have you been playing "game of life" lately? Deghri 3al retirement?

Lemans..

1- regarding the car: i dnt know know how it goes in montreal but in Toronto, car insurance is around 250-300$ per month when u just get a new car (new license and stuff) and it goes down with time till u pay 80-90$ and in case u have an accident it goes back up. so the 300$ is not a fixed thing.

2- where are you living in Montreal?, have you considered moving to Toronto? ( btw for how long have you lived in Texas?)

3- Dubai, Los angeles, beirut are a living Suburbia ... and for me thats the major problem for pple who are used to that and move to a city (downtown). you (in general) are used to cars (which is a luxury) and suddenly you find Yourself without it

4- you are in Montreal which is a great hipster city but at the same time "JERBENE" and not in a bad way but it is a very french city and totally diff. from other parts of Canada or North America. CANADA is huge country you can go whenever you like i mean you cannot judge a whole country by just a city.

5- Regarding retirement, i am sorry to tell you i dnt agree at all, my husband's grandma is like 100 years old and now living in a social housing for elderly she has her own apartment, her own income etc.. its not a lot and you cannot say well ohh i am not going to save any money now cse the govt will take care of evthg .. OF course not...but at least you will know that you will have the minimum to survive in a decent way and in case you saved than great you will enjoy extra vacations, shopping etc.. whatever you want. PLUS YOU WILL BE HAVING ALL THE PERKS OF A SENIOR.

6- Job wise: this is not exclusive to canada, but look regarding rights, compensation, improvement, competition, these points you can dream about it in Lebanon. I have no idea about Dubai, maybe you clarify this for me.

Again, think about it you have been here what 3 months? i ll say take some trips to other cities (cities not suburbs) Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary.. you have huge options here..

good point. but if u get from ur insurance in lebanon a letter stating u didnt have accidents or resposible of accidents in the past 5 years u get huge discounts. but that.s not in all companies. at la Capitale they recognise it and got big discounts. picture of a fax or email would do.

During the year, you will in fact have taxes deducted as appropriate where you work, Ontario in this case.

However, at the end of the year, you will file tax returns as a Quebec resident. That means filing both a Federal and a Provincial return(revenue Canada and Revenue Quebec). You get credits towards your Quebec taxes on your federal return, so what usually happens is that you end up with a big refund from Canada, and bill owing for Quebec.

I reside and work in Ottawa, so I only have 1 income tax to file before April 30 of each year.

Some people think that residing in Gatineau (cheap day care, cheap rent, minimum wage 10.35$...) and working in Ottawa (minimum wage 11$) is very helpful, but it's not since you'll be filing federal and provincial taxes.

with 2 incomes it might be helpful yes.

As for the benefits, I won't rely much on the healthcare system in Quebec. do some research and you'll see why.
Ontario(especially Ottawa) has the best healthcare system at the General Hospital and the CHEO.

Ottawa has its pros and cons. for a family it is a amazing but for jobs it's a bit tough market since all the government is located here, and you need to be a Canadian citizen for at least 10 years to work in gvt jobs.

Good luck!
